We will mount them in a way so that the face of the target leans back at the bottom. Silencers would be nice but the range is in the peoples republic of Illinoiastan, so silencers = jail.
Thanks, all the points are valid. They will mostly be shot at from straight on up to about a 15 to twenty degree angle from a left to right position. Might have to secure a chain to the bottom of the target to hold them back a few inches at the bottom.
Good day, I belong to a shooting range that is handgun and shotgun only. We purchased a couple of 16" gongs last year but never installed them because a couple of the members feared that 22lr bullets would ricochet off such a heavy target if they were hit. I understand that ricochets are...
8541 Tactical has a pretty good article on figuring a range if you know the height of a target, with the formula perhaps you can work the math backwards? That's beyond my pay grade though.
I've been loading 240gr and 300gr LSWC in 44 mag cases with 6gr of Unique for a couple of years out of an 8" revolver with no squibs. That's a pussy cat load. I think you would be fine.....but as they all say YMMV.
""Yes, I had the rather ironic scenario a little while back where I was shooting my pistol at a range in IL but I was not allowed to touch any of the firearms they had in the store front.""
Quite the opposite here. I live in Indiana and went to a gun shop/range last week in bordering Lansing...
Glue and screw two 2x4's going from the left cabinet to the right cabinet. Make sure they are on edge, not flat. also glue the 2x's to the bottom of the counter top and hold them in place with a couple of pipe clamps while you're securing them to the cabinet bases.
15 degrees and sunny in NW Indiana today and just got done shooting the same gun as you. 6gr Unique topped off with a 240gr lead pill. Shoots like a .38 in such a heavy revolver.
According to data from LOADDATA they show 6.2gr being max load for a 230gr LRN. You're shooting plated so I would assume 6.2 would be good for you if not even a couple of tenths higher. For what it's worth they list a FMJ 230gr loaded to 6.8gr @ 934fps. All that said I think you'll be ok with...
I practice in all types of weather....cold, very cold, hot and humid, rain. You never know when bad guys will try to do bad things to you. Practice at -10 without gloves and memorize that sting you feel in your hands. You may not always have your comfy gloves handy.
