    Synthetic Stock Dye

Some folks are claiming great success with RIT, just not me. Might do camo project but gonna leave it alone for now. Thanks

    Synthetic Stock Dye

pictures I guess I'll leave the dye projects to those that know better. I drilled my receiver for a cleaning hole and tried to dye that first...no joy. Tried to dye the stock, but that didn't take any dye either. I'll either paint it, or leave it alone as a reminder of my mistake. Here...

    Synthetic Stock Dye

thanks for the info. I think I am going to try this, I don't have much to lose. My plan of brown is not optimal but other folks seem to be making it work. I will stick with black for now to see what happens. I will try to remember to post before and after pics, maybe it will help someone else.

    Synthetic Stock Dye

No melting, just severe discoloration where the gun wash ran. I was in a hurry and knew better, but proceeded anyway....NEVER thinking that it would ruin the stock...i.e. in appearance only. I'll post pics later. I do have the discoloration subdued with Meguiar's Ultimate Black Plastic...

    Mosin Nagant ?'s Advice needed

Mosin v Rem 700? Admittedly, I'm not a rifle guru. I did fall into a Mosin 2 years ago and love it. I've always wanted a Remington 700 but it's too costly for how much I'd get to use it. I loved my first Mosin so much I bought a 2nd one....but keep in mind they are plentiful and cheap...

    Synthetic Stock Dye

Had some Winchester Gun Wash destroy the appearance of my synthetic stock on my Ruger 10/22. Not sure I want to paint it, but it's an option. I've seen folks using the RIT dye, this seems like a good idea. Their product will look better than mine...I'm not looking to get fancy, just get...

    Mosin Nagant help

ammo I ended up with some 145gr and 150gr ammo for the Mosin. I only put a few rounds through it but at 50 yds it was very accurate (shot from kneeling, not a bench) and I didn't think the recoil was bad at all. Overall, the Mosin is very pleasant to shoot and I'm looking forward to some...

    Mosin Nagant help

ammo Thanks, that was my next issue. I got whatever the store had in stock this week, and to be honest I'm still not sure what weight it is...didn't care. But I was going to start looking at the typical ranges and start experimenting, possibly reloading. I have the M44 carbine now, but...

    Mosin Nagant help

Resolved ptII I wasn't finished but must've fat-fingered the buttons. As far as gunnerboy's motto I tend to agree. From working on cars, to Harleys, and being an inflight maintenance technician on Reconnaissance a/c, and now Mosin-Nagants....hammers sure do come in handy! Thank you all...

    Mosin Nagant help

Chambering Resolved I can't thank you guys enough for the tips and help. I have been stewing on this at work all day (as well as past few days). I know it's in the extractor. I had already looked/noticed the extractor groove in the chamber face. This obviously allows for the extractor to...

    Mosin Nagant help

headspace gauges, etc Yes, I got off track with getting the headspace gauges but now that I'm learning more I know they will be required very soon. This extractor, and me, have to be the problem. After that the gun will need a thorough cleaning and lubricating. My local gun store has a big...

    Mosin Nagant help

Loon Wulf I understood your question. When I insert the round into the extractor it'll chamber. Otherwise no-go. I think this is resolved and will post it at the end

    Mosin Nagant help

It doesn't matter if it's by hand or by the magazine, the round won't chamber. It's not engaging under the extractor. On the few times I can get it to chamber, the rim is under the extractor like it should be. I can feed it by hand, but it's tricky...and when I do then the bolt closes...

    Mosin Nagant help

bolt assy I figured out my mistake on the bolt assy. I was taking the cocking knob out of the groove in the guide bar. I found out when rotating the cocking knob ccw, it needs to stay engaged in the guide bar.

    Mosin Nagant help

I will acquire a firing pin go/no-go gauge soon to ensure that is set correctly, then I will look for a headspacing gauge set for the Mosin. Not sure what I'll do if it's not any good. A trip to the gunsmith is looking very likely.

mosin bolt assembled and chambering pic This is the assembled bolt. I also show a pic with the round engaged in the bolt head manually...this is what doesn't seem to be happening with the round in the mosin.

    Mosin Nagant help

disassembly of bolt In order to disassemble the bolt assy entirely, the guide bar fork has to be pulled (bent is a bad term) over the cocking assy piece that engages the fork. Step 4 shows that the rotation isn't quite enough. Step 5 shows the guide bar being pulled out enough to go over...

    Mosin Nagant help

It's fairly clean now, and still not chambering correctly. The cartridge fits into the bolt head with the bolt removed. It' "snaps" under the extractor. After several attempts, I got one good chambering. It seems the cartridge isn't going underneath the extractor, and the extractor won't...

    Mosin Nagant help

I will post pics when I get the bolt out of my sonic cleaner. It definitely doesn't just fall apart, most of it does but not the bolt connector from the bolt head. Even the manual I found says it should be a simple roatation to disassemble...but it doesn't have enough room to fully rotate...

    Mosin Nagant help

The bolt is disassembled and in my sonic cleaner. The extractor doesn't seem to spring at all. I can put a case under the rim and feed it. I did this yesterday with a round in the magazine, ...I helped feed it. I will clean the bolt and headspace and try again. I will post pics of the bolt...
