Depending on what brand it is it could just be a cheap barrel. I know some Romanian ak's are notorious for overheating barrels. Could also be the ammo.

Well I plan on using it almost exclusively for small game/ varmint hunting. My ar-15 is my target gun :D. But anyway I shoot mostly at squirrels <100 yards away so a 3-9 should be ok.

I want something that is bolt action, detachable box magazine (not the floor plate type), preferably black walnut, 30-06, fluted or bull barrel. I've looked at the ruger scout and its not really for me.

free floating it isnt really a big concern as long as i could find a longer handguard.

perhapse i shouldve been more specific, i have a stag model 3 flat-top. to hold the handguard on it uses a spring compressed ring which clamps it onto like, a disc (new to ar's, still finding proper names and what not.) right now it has the carbine length diamondhead versa rail handguard.

hey guys. i have a carbine length hanguard/foregrip whatever you wish call it and im not really happy with how short it is. could i put a longer handguard on it? like a free floated one perhapse?

i was wondering if using ammunition with a steel casing (tula, military classic, american eagle, wolf) would be at all harmful for an ar-15. i know it wont "break" the gun but will steel casings wear out the chamber / bolt faster? how about hornady steel casing fmj?
