    MARSOC approves the Glock 19

I don't think the "point" has been missed by many posters. Wait a couple more years and the majority will be using the Glock 19. The 1911 will be "authorized", and part of the "tool chest" as we often hear, which will make the 1911 users feel better. But, it's lack of improvement over the...

    MARSOC approves the Glock 19

Thus is what happens when you don't improve designs. A grip safety that serves no function except to cause problems if you shoot it properly. Plunger tube is still a separate part to come loose, grip bushings come loose, ejector that is not "field" replaceable....etc, etc. Just keep making...

Larry Vickers & Ken Hackathorn on the HK45

It would have been good if H&K was interested in a "redesign" of the 1911 and what they would have come up, with direction, from Vickers and Hackathorn. I'd like to see another company take a "shot" at it. The 1911 needs some design changes while maintaining the "virtues". If JMB were...

    1911 guide rod

I could be mistaken, but I have a Colt with a loose slide/frame fit and with a FLGR, it rattles less and the ejection pattern is much more consistent than with the GI rod. Obviously, it works fine with the GI rod, but it would seem the FLGR has some "influence" on how the slide rides the frame??

Extractor, springs and mag help needed

I believe I recall reading your past posts on the Colt 380's, and along with this one, despite the retail prices, the 380's as designed don't seem to hold up. That's actually a "question", not a fact!! Meaning, for $500-$600, I would think Colt or Sig could make a durable 380? Or someone...

Firing pin block safeties, necessary or not?

The series 80 can have problems if not properly timed...and more parts which is the 'downside'. Not a big one if "attended to". The very few who actually may have use the 1911 in today's world, like a very small amount of special forces, some FBI, etc don't appear to use the series 80.

Firing pin block safeties, necessary or not?

I have both, but the series 80 prevents AD's if dropped, trigger parts break, hammer follows slide down, etc. Just like all the modern guns. What would you guess the percentage of people carring a C&L 1911 compared to other guns is right at this moment? 1%-2%?? So, give the largest LEO...

    MIM Parts Breakage

Hi Tuner, It does have the rectangular indentation. I was surprised since I assumed it was machined. "Somewhere" on the net, there is a picture of both and that's what "alerted" me...so to speak. I have to assume that the MIM extractors varied in quality, or inconsistent, since mine works...

    MIM Parts Breakage

I have a Colt 1991 that has 50,000 rounds on it. MIM disconnector still in and replaced the MIM sear at 30,000...not broken though! Original Colt MIM extractor....still going strong...

springfield custom shop reviews and info - 1911 related

:D The custom shop will do a much better job of fitting and blending the beavertail than what you'll see on a production model. IMHO, what you have to decide now is when they replace the hammer, and fit the thumb safety, you're half-way into "trigger-work". So, if you like your trigger...

    Colt 1991 or Springfield Mil-Spec

Major differences are the FP safety of the Colt and $100 less for the Springfield. Make sure the Springfield is the "Mil-Spec", and not the GI model. I "see" those models on the "auctions" sometimes mixed up. For me, it would come down to the individual "look/fit" of the two guns you are...

    Over Under Advice

I agree. All I intended was a "good" used one. That's a general term, but one that isn't worn out. To be honest, I have no experience with Bt-99's. I see a lot of them, but never shot one, never even "asked about one". If yours needed that much work, not knowing how many rounds through it...

    Over Under Advice

Since you didn't detail what's "cheap" for an O/U, I'll say you can buy a good used one like Browning and Beretta for @ $1400...depending of course. If you go to enough ranges, shoots, etc and notice what people shoot, discounting higher end O/U's, you will see what people buy most, and for...

1911 slide stop pin diameter & lug & link question

Colt's slide stop is probably the same, buy one of those! EGW probably has one or can make one for you in the size you need!

    Cynergy for a novice shooter?

Beretta's often have "cast" in their stocks. Not an easy fix if you don't require it. I think it's smart to narrow down your selection. Once you have done that, look at barrel length, balance, etc. Be advised, Browning has different stock dimensions between models that look alike..kinda...

    Cynergy for a novice shooter?

Your not "missing" anything. In that price range you can buy reliable, durable O/U's. Easy choices are the Browning/Beretta variations. It's difficult to choose because there are so many models and without shooting them, it can be hard. But...you do it. ;) For sporting clays, the 30"...

We need suggestions for a better clay bird gun.

There you go ;). That's the way to do it. You saved yourself a lot of time and money. Listen to him and go from there depending on how far you want to go with clay target shooting.

How safe are 1911's to carry cocked and locked?

The series 80, i.e Colt, Para, Sig, AO, Taurus "types" have a FP block that is released only if you pull the trigger. If the hammer drops all the way down, it hits the FP...but the FP is blocked by the "plunger". On a Kimber, S&W style FP block, the gun would fire as you stated, since the FP...
