Would you rely on an AK as your primary defensive rifle?

Galil Ace 5.56 is what you seek. I went with a Gen 1 due to not wanting to have to add sights. Gen 1 Gen 2

Would you rely on an AK as your primary defensive rifle?

AK for me. My go to rifle was an SLR104FR, but due to the import ban on ammo and the shortage of 5.45, it is relegated to “barely shot“ status. I have a decent supply of ammo for it, but I’m not paying .90 cpr to replace it. Now my go to rifle is a Gen 1 Galil Ace in 5.56. Best of both...

    Russian Saiga 308-1

RS Regulate side mounts get you a lower 1/3 co witness as well. I know, I have both. ;)

    Russian Saiga 308-1

If you like AKs and .308s, then you will like the Saiga. Probably the only better AKish option would be a Galil Ace in .308.

Serbia bans the export of firearms

It’s official, they are banned from export for the next 30 days.

A well worn AK question - but I need some good advice.

Have you considered a Galil Ace in 5.56? It’s an AK derivative (internal guts are just like an AK) that is a further evolution of the traditional AK. On the plus side, it uses AR mags. I have a Gen 1 and highly recommend it. I find it superior to every AK I own. As to pure AKs, the best...

    Battle Of The Budget AK

Saw the statement and it came across as they have no idea if this is happening or not, here’s an article with ZUSA’s statement in it. It doesn’t sound too hopeful. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2023/07/10/serbia-halts-arms-exports/

    Battle Of The Budget AK

That price may not be the same much longer. Word is that Serbia may be restricting exports of arms and Zastava rifles may not be coming into the country in the future, I can’t remember if this is due to the conflict in Ukraine or due to trouble brewing once more in the Balkans. Anyways, the...

    Battle Of The Budget AK

Our corrupt overlords are laughing at this, almost like it was planned. ;) I remember paying roughly $300 for a Saiga sporter back around 2010 and $400 for a WASR 2 around 2017. I was hesitant to pay $1050ish for my SLR104 in 2016, but seeing what they sell for now I feel like it was a steal.

    Who likes AK type rifles?

Laughs in Vepr. Heavy barrel and thicker RPK receiver equals better accuracy.

Cheap AK: PSA GF3 or something else?

That RH10 I posted is made by Cugir (same that manufactures the WASR) and is considered a WASR variant and only imported by Century. For the price (it’s a quality import), it can’t be beat. I don’t need another 7.62x39 AK, or I would snap one up at this price. Here’s more information on it...

The model is a Norinco model 386 Hunter, it looks original to me. Here is one that was for auction a while ago: https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/2053/356/norinco--386-ak47-hunter

    Who likes AK type rifles?

While I am an AK fan boy, we are not the worst by a long shot. That honor goes to AR fan boys. To prove my point, in any thread where someone asks a rifle choice, one always, and I mean always chimes in with: “You should get an AR.” I’m quite positive I even read that type of comment in a...

So I am going to buy an AK....

I’ll throw a completely different option out there, Galil Ace Gen I or II. It’ll outperform a standard AK and still be an AK derivative. If you want traditional military look, get Gen I. If you want a free floated barrel with a handguard that allows for a ton of attachments, go Gen II. IWIs...

    Your favorite Red Dot? Why?

For a budget dot: Old yellow letter Bushnell TRS25, it’s resided on my Saiga’s Ultimak for over a decade and 1000s of rounds of 7.62x39 down range. It won’t die.

    What did you shoot today?

First time out to the range since June, shot the following: Colt Anaconda Smith & Wesson 629 Galil Ace Gen 1 556 Ruger Mini 14 Springfield Trapdoor 45-70 Got some powder burn on my right hand while dual wielding the Anaconda and 629. Waste of ammo, but fun AF.

    As-Issued SKS Value

Just how both are years, yet one is part of the serial number, that’s all I meant. It does look like 1963 as another poster stated previously.
