    New Winchester 1873 or 1892?

I am looking at adding a new rifle; I want a new Winchester 24" barreled rifle in 44/40 or ? Just as a nostalgia shooter, no cowboy action events or serious hunting. Just a nice addition. I have several Winchesters now, from 25/20, 32/20 in 92s to 25/35, 30/30 and 32 WS in 94s and an 1886 in...

    New 1886 in 45-90

I just bought a NIB Winchester 1886 (Miroku) in 45/90. It is a takedown model with a 26" octagon barrel. I am excited to start loading for it, I have dies coming, and I got 50 new Starline brass with it. Where should I start? Which bullet and what type of black powder? I am a little scared of...

    Which1874 Sharps

If a feller was to lose his mind completely and get a hankering for an 1874 Sharps rifle in say 45/70, which one is better. I looked at C. Sharps and Shiloh Sharps. They both are sure handsome rifles. Could I get some feedback from shooters please. I don't want to shoot in any competition or...

    Lead free bullets in California

California has released the agenda for the lead free regulations. Starting in2016 we will have to use LF for non game animals. I am looking at the Barnes 36 grain Varmint Grenades for squirrels and 50 grainers for coyotes. Does anyone have any experience with these projectiles? I am hoping since...

    Went prairie dog shooting today!

Well I had to, it has been around 60-65 degrees around here lately. I got a little cabin fever, so I loaded up around noon and went to a spot about an hour from my house. Yup, sure enough, a few pdogs were out and about. Windy when I got there, but not too bad, I thought as I was unloading my...

Hornady to Discontinue .257 117 RN?

I just got an email from Powder Valley, they said that Hornady discontinued the bullets that I have had on backorder and they will be cancelling my order. If Hornady quits making the .257 117 RN bullets, I guess I will have to start casting something as they are the only manufacturer that I have...

    Austin Halleck

A guy at work is selling an Austin and Halleck .50 bolt muzzle loader, I have never heard of these but looked on the internet, they are out of business. Anyone have any experience with them? My issue would be parts availablity. It seems like a well built rifle, but should I pass on it and look...

Still in love with my old S & W revolvers

I went out shooting the other day with the kids (25-30 y.o.) and their friends. Shoot what you brung. I have decided that I still like my old K frames way better than any of the new plastic autos. After shooting several of the new autos (and looking for spent brass) I drug out a couple of Smiths...

    .257 weatherby load help

I had my .25/06 rebarreled to .257 weatherby. I have 11 boxes of 115 nosler partitions left over, does anyone have any pet load data for this combo? I have tried IMR-7828 and RL-22 so far. I love the velocity, noticed the difference absolutely at 400 yards! Thanks in advance for any help.
