    Please Help Virginia

That is a bright spot, albeit a small one. It was kind of depressing watching the election results roll in. Who knows what kinda nonsense we will have to fight against in the coming years.

Post sizing rifle brass how do you get lube off your cases?

I don't use One Shot. However, before I got a tumbler, I didn't bother wiping off the lube. Now that I have a dry tumbler, I just throw the loaded rounds in there for a few minutes after loading. Not necessary, but that way I end up with clean, lube-free rounds. If I didn't have a dry tumbler, I...

Best powder for loading 55gr boolits in AR 15

I tried quenching powder coat, just to see how it would work. In my experience, it does not. The powder coat does bad things when cooled quickly. Had some that cracked and peeled, and others that bubbled horribly (which I honestly expected it to do). Maybe if you let it cool a little before...

spray painting bullets anyone tried this??

I have tried painting bullets with appliance epoxy. Not as a serious thing, just because I had some epoxy and wondered if it would work. Not very well. As I expected, it doesn't hold up near as well as powder coat. Not to mention in the time it takes to dry and cure completely I could cast...

    223 powder coated bullets

I shoot powder coated 223 bullets. I use the Lee 55gn FN mold. I've done some experimenting seeing how far I can push them. So far I've pushed them to 2700fps with no problems. I haven't had time to do any precision accuracy testing, but for my regular shooting, they are on par with jacketed...

    Powder Coating Bullets Question

I used airsoft bbs originally, but then I found a better method. I use those plastic containers that ice cream comes in (can't remember brand, but they have blue lids). Dump in the powder and bullets and shake a couple of times. Then I dump them out on screen and bake them. Once they are done I...

What is this animal? It's running wild and free in Oklahoma.

I'm jealous of ya'll out west. Got all kinds of animals running around. Here we got deer, squirrels, a few coyotes, and an occasional bear passing through. No boars (yet, apparently they're in southeast VA), no elk, no funky sheep things. I really, really need to move out west...

Well what did y'all get for gifts this year?

Parents got me a vibrating tumbler. And I gave myself an early present last week of an entirely new reloading setup, including turret press and Auto-drum measure. Now, once I can get some time away from work to actually use all my new toys, I'll be happy. Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

    Book cover title color

I prefer the red. Looks better, I think. Good luck with it. Looks like something I'd read.

    Cleaning dies

I tear them completely apart to clean. Remove the decapping pin/expander and the retaining collet (Lee dies) and then clean them like a barrel, with a brush and citrus solvent that I get from work. Run a mop through to dry it all out. For the seaters and flare dies I do the same. Doing it this...

    Local teen killed cleaning gun

Exactly. First thing I do when handling, cleaning, etc. is to verify visually and physically that it is clear. Seems common sense to me. I always struggle to understand how someone could not do that. These stories are always sad, especially since they are so easily avoidable.

Why can't I ever get this lucky?

Very true. I've had a terrible time with my stuff getting delivered to the wrong house (including the only 458 SOCOM bolt I could find at the time), and delivery drivers leaving important items (such as crates of ammo) on the side of the road at the end of the driveway where I can't see it. I...

    .30-30 heavy bullets

Before I started casting I was loading 184gn lead rounds for my brother's 336. Now I cast 170gn bullets. I consider 170-180gn heavy for a 30-30. Those shoot fine (and with no leading, even with the Micro-Groove), but I don't see a need to go any higher than that. Is there a specific reason you...

    Marlin microgroove and lead boolits

The first rifle I started casting for was the Marlin 336 that I gave to my brother. We have shot a lot of cast rounds through that (I don't remember how many, just a lot), and we always checked it afterwards for leading because I'd heard that Micro-Groove has problems with lead. Never found any...

    How often to trim 223?

I trim 223 brass on the first load, regardless of whether its new or once-fired. After that, I generally trim about every three reloads. Even then, most of the cases are still in spec and the trimmer doesn't cut anything.

    Standard Glock barrels with lead

I have also shot thousands of cast boolits through a Glock with no problems. When I first got into casting and was experimenting with different alloys and lubes, I definitely got leading. However, it was no worse than any other gun. Once I got it all figured out, leading disappeared. Now I shoot...

    .22 cal cast bullets?

I cast and load 223 for several ARs. Shooting regular lubed cast bullets is kind of a pain because they don't shoot well, and lubing them is messy and difficult because they are so small. I powdercoat all mine now and they shoot and cycle just fine. Tested loads to over 2500fps that were...

What are your gun related goals for 2017?

    1. Shoot the boxes of test loads that I haven't had a chance to test yet. 2. Find an M1 Carbine for my girlfriend because she has a love affair with them. 3. Shoot the many guns in my collection that haven't gotten any attention this year. 4. Load more (especially since I have a new turret...

    Tokarev

Nice work. Been looking recently for a Tokarev myself, because I like old milsurps and the 7.62 Tokarev round is interesting to me. However, I keep coming upon other deals in the meantime so the Tokarev keeps getting pushed back. Eventually I'll get one. My gun want list appears to be growing...

Swaging rifle (300blk) brass and another thing....

Primer pockets only need to be swaged on crimped brass the first time. After that, there should be no problem. Just load as you would anything else. If you trim your brass, you'll probably need to debur and chamfer the mouth. Other than that, not really much else to it.
