    Identify this snake

Likely Pituophis catenifer sayi, a bullsnake. Possibly Pituophis ruthveni, a Louisiana pinesnake. The distinct and well defined saddles indicate the former and they are much more commonly encountered.

Shield APEX aluminum trigger and AEK: now getting failure to reset

Over travel is a increased or decreased by adjusting the trigger bar loop. Opening the gap increases over travel, closing the gap decreases it. Apex kits work only with the later sear block housings designed with the 1/8" sear spring and plunger. I believe this change occurred in 2011 or...

Shield APEX aluminum trigger and AEK: now getting failure to reset

I have the Apex trigger spring in the 9mm, the factory spring combined with the Apex sear was too light for my taste. The 45 Shield has only the flat face trigger in it - factory sear, striker block and trigger return spring. The Shield 45s seem to have a nicer trigger out of the box than the...

Shield APEX aluminum trigger and AEK: now getting failure to reset

The feeler gauges let you read the loop gap as you're opening/closing it a very small amount. Hard to "feel" by hand if you actually changed it when making the adjustment. The Duty/Carry kit has a heavier return spring as the Apex sear reduces the trigger pull below what many are comfortable...

Shield APEX aluminum trigger and AEK: now getting failure to reset

Sounds like you will need to address the trigger bar loop. I do on most of my installs simply to maximize trigger performance. Its not that hard to do, just go easy and use the gauges. If you want a lighter break use the original factory trigger return spring instead of the Apex kit spring...

Would You Trust Your Life With A .380?

I would imagine modern GS trauma procedures have had a lot to do with this.

Would You Trust Your Life With A .380?

Yes, as long as my skill with the weapon was where it needed to be and the ammunition used was a load known to perform consistently.

    Ruger SP101 info requests

I like the Hogue wood grip without finger grooves. I re-work the grip a bit, softening the edges and removing most of the palm swell. Finish with a beeswax rub for a natural appearance that's less slippery than the factory high polish job.

    Zorn holsters

I have a couple of the Zorn Skinny Rigs and like them a lot. Their service and communication is also top shelf. I'm hoping they can expand their fit list now that they're in a new production facility. I'd like to add more of their holsters to my team.

    So S&W IS releasing a Model 66 snubby ...

Can't argue that. I've a 6" GP100 that's just been a super handgun. I really should find me a nice 3" version and stick with what I know.

    So S&W IS releasing a Model 66 snubby ...

I'm not a big fan of the modern Smiths but that revolver looks just dandy to me. I have a nice slicked up 3" SP101 that I adore thus don't need the Smith. But.... ;)

    SKS

Thank you. I wanted a modernized SKS for an all around shooter and survival kind of application. Very happy with how it turned out. Fun shooter and it attracts youngsters at the range like candy. Sticks out from all the ARs and the kids are always on to anything that's different.

    SKS

Hard not to like the SKS. Makes a great bush rifle and always brings a smile when you start makin' noise with it.

    Rabbits in the Snow?

Those bunnies run in cycles. Here in Wyoming the populations of cottontails and jacks are strong but I've noticed the snowshoe hares seem to be more scarce than a couple years ago. Catch those bunnies a day ahead of an incoming storm front, too. They're out chowin' down to weather things out.

John Ross for Director of BATFE in the Trump Administration

John Ross authored the acclaimed "Unintended Consequences." An excellent and interesting dramatic novel about the gun culture in America. When it initially came out, a few friends and I bought several copies apiece and spread them around. Reactions were most interesting. I was still in law...
