    25-06 Suggestions

I'll have to second Critter's comments above. I also own an Argentine Mauser action rebarreled to .25-06; mine is a 1909 and wears a Douglas Heavy Sporter-contour 24" barrel. I love that rifle, and it's nice to go to the range and never see a rifle just like mine on the next bench over. It's...

"They really don't make em' like this..."

P.B., I understand what you mean. My tastes run to the older rifles, and I have a small collection of Remington target rifles from the '40's and '50's. My hunting rifle is based on a 1909 Argentine Mauser action. I guess the newest rifle I own is a Marlin Golden 39A that I bought new in '02...

Cleaning new pistol 5 times between shots before firing?

Ha! The inside of most pistol barrels are so rough from the factory, that a little fouling might help smooth them out! Seriously though, there are so many factors contributing to accuracy (or lack thereof) in a semi-auto pistol, that barrel break-in just isn't a factor. Since you wanted...

Beretta M9 trigger lock/slide position question

If you just put the cable through the trigger guard behind the trigger, is the cable thick enough to keep the trigger from being fully actuated? If so, problem solved. Otherwise, you could at least release some of the tension on the recoil spring by letting the slide close gently on the...

    Price Check: Beretta 84F .380 + 7 magazines

Beretta 80-series safety note To add a note here, in the Beretta 80 series, the 'F' model is less desirable than the 'FS'. I say this even though I'm a big Beretta fan and own both an 84F and an 85F. 'F' models sell for around $100 less than 'FS' models, and here is why: Earlier models of...

Buy 22 pistol to train with or a case of 9mm?

Breakingcontact, have you tried any of the friendly pistol competitions in your area? Depending on what kind of training you're looking for, something like IDPA will get you away from just standing there punching paper at your leisure. Once you're fairly familiar with the controls on your...

recommended steel target size for 100 yard rifle

I'm a welder by trade, so I LOVE talking about steel. For pistols, I use standard HR steel, 1/2" thick x 8" diameter for IDPA practice out to 30 yards. (8" is the diameter of the 'down zero' on a standard IDPA target.) I built several of these for a small club I'm a member of, and we...

    Classic American Rimfires?

I guess it depends on what facet of the shooting sports you're into. For me, the Remington 37 and 40X, and the Winchester 52 represent the high point of American target rifles. The 10/22 is probably the most-accessorized .22 out there. Frankly I don't care for them in out-of-the-box...

    458. Winchester for Deer

I can't remember offhand where, but I've read in several places that you can load .458 bullets designed for the .45/70 to .45/70 velocities in the .458 Win Mag and do fine. I seem to remember at least one person mentioning use of a filler in the case since it had a fair amount less powder in...

Alright, I'm sold on VZ grips...

Love the VZ's also... I put a set of VZ Aliens on my Dad's RIA 1911 Tactical to replace those silly smooth grips...what a difference. They're a pretty rough grip, but then again neither of us sits at a desk for a living (no offense if you do!), so they're just what the doctor ordered...

In spite of the palpable anger the very existence of this rifle will cause

I don't know, I understand y'all liking a rifle that has iron sights, but dang. What does that thing have, the sight radius of an AK? I don't see an elevation adjustment, either.

    I don't understand this.

OK, that makes sense now. Did you get the pistol open, and if so did the dummy come out in one piece, and what did the dummy's measurements check out at? Just wondering, what was the length of the case on that dummy? I'm not familiar with the Glock's design, but are there any marks or...

Good ccw pistols? under $500 dollars [used or new], reliable, ergonomic for a lefty

There are many options for you, and I'll give you one more. The Beretta 84F / 84FS can sometimes be found at or under $500 used, is utterly reliable, and uses 13-round mags where legal. It's a big .380, but has good, usable sights, a long enough sight radius to be useful, and it's all metal...

    I don't understand this.

Dave, I'm curious -- why were you making dummies if you weren't changing anything about your load? Were you able to force the pistol open, and if so, was the bullet still in the case and was the OAL unchanged?

    magazine identification help

Although there are some similarities, the external ribs definitely keep it from being a Beretta magazine of any type I have seen, and I'm a Beretta kind of guy. Maybe process of elimination will get you there.

    Dillon case feeder running slow...

It sounds like you're familiar enough with the setup to have checked for clutch slippage...but just to be sure...the clutch isn't slipping, is it?

    I don't understand this.

Since they were dummies, I assume you were still figuring out OAL, crimp, or something similar. Did you try a drop-test with them first with the barrel out of the pistol? I had this happen once when I was trying out a .38 SPL expander on a Lyman Multi-Expand die in 9mm - the .38 expander did...

    Your Concealed Carry Gun?

Being a Beretta fan, I've alternated carrying a Titanium Tomcat .32, an 85F .380, and a 92FS Compact 9mm from the beginning. Mainly the 92FS Compact in the winter, in a Crossbreed Supertuck-style rig at 4:00.

Newbie to Mauser 98, should I buy this one?

Ha ha...for the last 20 years I've resisted adding another Mauser to my collection of one...and since then, 1909 Argentines like the one I sporterized have gone from $149 for a hand-picked example (mine was all numbers-matching) to $$$$$$! Just today, I started thinking again about how nice...
