Does anybody know what the mag dimensions commonly are for a 5 round mag conversion? I see that Dayton Traister makes a trigger / speedlock / cock on opening for 5 or 6 round mags. I'm willing to bet that mine is the 5 round type. Hence the short trigger.
I see that they say that the bolt needs...
Twist rate effects stabilization. Barrel length doesn't matter. The longer barrel will get you a little more velocity, and a quieter report. Less muzzle blast because more powder is burned in the barrel. Of course the blast isn't exactly the same as if we were 7mm Mag, but I would go with the...
The screw doesn't have enough threads to shorten. That's why I mentioned the die. The mag is angled because it was angled when I got it. I stayed with the angle.
Rifle is an unfinished m1917 custom. Replacement High Standard barrel 23.75" long. Dayton Traister trigger and cock on opening. I got it from someone that got took @ a gun show.
The trigger didn't protrude far enough into the trigger guard to really get your finger on it, so I shaved the box...
You guys have given plenty of info for D.A.1 to contemplate, but I've seen something I strongly disagree with. 3x9 scopes. If only for deer at ranges beyond 50 yds then I would agree that 3x9 would be appropriate. I often hunt at shorter ranges yet love using a scope as opposed to iron sites. I...
I haven't been shooting .22 much, and that's because of price and availability. I had about 3,000 rounds when things got really stupid. I have about 300 left of old stock. 50 round box of Thunderbolts is marked $1.97. 100 rounds of MiniMags $4.19 and $6.97.
I think some of you forget how cheap...
Go here and ask this question. http://www.akfiles.com/forums/
I converted my Saiga 7.62x39 myself and love it. It wasn't cheap and I'm not 100% sure that I would do it again, but it's all brand new. I'm not a fan of a stepped bore. Mine isn't.
This looks like a quality weapon...
Wider choice of bullets than a 30 cal?! I hate to call someone with over 4000 posts an idiot, but here I am. Even .270 has "excellent bullets" from 85-160 gr.
I whole heartedly endorse this in .270 http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/10TROPHYHUNTERXP A removable magazine chambered in a...
I've used Brown Bear 125 gr soft points with satisfactory results, but next year I'm going to give these a try. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/116209/hornady-ammunition-762x39mm-123-grain-sst-steel-case-box-of-50
2 moa with converted Saiga sporting an ancient 2.5x Weaver scope with a 3 or 4 moa dot. Golden bear softpoint bi-metal. Haven't tried a lot of different rounds.
I've got an m-77 in 30.06. I've never seen another. Bone stock. Mine shoots MOA with a fine factory trigger adjusted to the minimum and 150-180gr factory loadings. It might even shoot better, but with a $100 scope and a table I could shoot MOA all day if my shoulder could stand the thump of the...
Young. Hungry. Late deer season. Pocket full of tags. Borrowed 8mm Mauser and rounds. Running deer herd @ 10yds. Dropped two and on the second stroke of the bolt the gun jammed hard almost chambering a round. Returned gun to my uncle in jammed condition. A day later he tells me that he pulled a...
First deer taken with .243 handi rifle @ 80 yds using factory Winchester Supreme 100gr power point just touched the spine topside of lungs. #2 taken with Ruger M-77 (tang safety) 30.06 factory Remington 150gr Corelock @ 40 yds double lung. Neither took a step.
The Ruger was a gift from my wife...
My hunting partner of the last decade called me "old dead eye" when telling his significant other who shot the deer we got this Sunday. I imagine it is because I just don't miss. I'm sure than one of the reasons I just don't miss, is because I aim for the boiler room.
Dude. I can not imagine any fragmentation of a typical 170 grain 30-30 bullet at velocities under 1800 fps. Nor would I want any in a carcass I intend to consume.
The one thing you can not do with a lever that an sks is good at, is shoot follow up shots from the prone position.
I've shot a Yugoslavian, and a Chinese SKS and both were as accurate as any 30-30 lever with open sights not of the peep variety. The Chinese was/is my favorite. Magazines can be...
Not with iron sights less than an inch above bore line. Sight height is as always, a big deal. It drives me crazy when people quote ballistics without quoting sight height. All the parameters are a big deal. Wind drift in a 10 mph cross wind may approach 10 " @ 200 yds.
Your every day 30-30 170...
