    King of milsurp bolt guns?

    Here's how I'd rank what I own/I've owned, from best to worst: Finnish M39 German K98k Polish M44 Swedish M96 Swiss K31 Soviet 91/30 Persian 98/29 Swiss G1911 Finnish M28 Finnish M91 Soviet M38 French MAS 36 (and 36/51) Canadian No.4 Mk.1* U.S. 1903A3 Mexican M1910 Some...

Do you get tired of a gun due to recoil, ammo cost or accuracy?

I dove into the world of C&Rs by basically acquiring every rifle I could reasonably afford. The main thing I love about the old rifles is how each nation had their own gun which reflected their own design philosophies and requirements. My goal was to try everything I could to see what I liked...

    Plugs and Muffs weren't enough.

Left ear only. It was a PA-63. It seems so stupid I almost wonder if it's coincidence and something else is going on.

    Plugs and Muffs weren't enough.

Wow what a timely thread for me. My left ear just started ringing the Saturday before last after dry-firing a pistol in my office a few times and it hasn't stopped. Like you, I always, always, always double up when shooting, and I use foam plugs + Silencio Magnums. 3 out of my 4 grandparents...

    Marketing Project - S&W

    1. Do you consider Smith & Wesson an innovator? Please explain. Only to a small degree. Their recent use of lightweight materials for the concealed carry market was somewhat innovative and probably brought in a fair number of sales. Some models seemed like solutions in search of a problem...

    Romanian Trainer Rifle problem

I also had this problem. I believe my dad fixed it by stoning an edge break on one of the firing pin surfaces. Rifle works perfectly now. That solution would be specific to my bolt, though. Yours was probably screwed up differently.

    Are all 22's Jam-O-Matics?

I also have a 100% reliable 10/22. I haven't even cleaned it in about 1500 rounds. I don't really like how it shoots, though.

    30's Mk.VII ball strange fouling

Huh I find very little information about removing nickel and cupro-nickel fouling, other than people saying "it used to be a problem". Consequently, I can't find any firearms cleaning products that attack nickel directly. Repeated cleanings with Wipe-Out foam and GM Top Engine Cleaner (my two...

    30's Mk.VII ball strange fouling

While shooting my 1950 Long Branch for the first time (using 30's Mk.VII from Samco), I noticed a drastic shift in POI about halfway through the day that I couldn't explain. After cleaning the bore, I now find this strange fouling about two inches from the crown down: What will it take to...

    Surplus Rifles

These recommendations are always difficult because a rifle's performance depends almost entirely on how well it fits its user and how well that individual rifle shoots. My counterbored Tula 91/30 shoots better than my mint-bored Tikka 91/30. My MAS 36 groups tighter than my K31. We can all think...

Buying an M-39 Mosin tomorrow, need advice

You'll be fine with any of the barrel descriptions you list.

Where can I learn how to use rifles & shotguns in Minnesota?

One of your better bets is to attend a high power clinic hosted at one of the clubs I'm in, Gopher Rifle and Revolver Club. Excellent instruction, fun shooting. They start you at 200 yards, though you'd only get to shoot a modern service rifle (M1, M14, AR-15). I think they only do this clinic...

Fall 2008 MILSURP paper plate shoot

The best of five plates. I hate it when my first group is the best one. I had to shoot from the rifle club's horrible benches because they were mowing/weed whacking/dropping chemicals. I sighted in my new Mossberg M44US as well. That will produce a sub-2" group easily. Look for it soon. I'll...

How many of you have shot something more than a paper target at the range.

Last weekend I shot a discarded spotting scope (glass facing me), shot the ruined spraypaint can I set next to it, and then shot the woodchuck that came out to investigate just what was going on at the 100 yard line.

    Antique rifle sale--buyer's ID expired

OK. I've got an action plan. If his cashier's check clears, all is probably well, anyway. Thanks guys.

    Antique rifle sale--buyer's ID expired

Antique as in Finnish Mosin-Nagant on an 1896 receiver. 1. Yes. 2. No, not to my knowledge.

    Antique rifle sale--buyer's ID expired

I sold an antique rifle and recently received payment and a copy of a buyer's driver's license. The fly in the ointment is that the license expired in 1999. The URL at the bottom of the paper the license is printed on points to an AOL webmail attachment, presumably a scan of this license...

Which Tech Sight for 10/22 Appleseed?

These sights are hit and miss for me. I have a TS200 rear sight, and feel I should have bought a TS100. My rifle hit way, way high with the first front sight post that came, but Tech Sights has taller front sight posts available cheaply which corrected that problem. The polish-blued rear...

Whats the furthest you enjoy shooting with irons

Interesting question. I've found that I don't really have a maximum distance with irons that I enjoy (I've only tried up to 600 yards, though), but I do have a minimum distance with centerfire rifles: 200 yards. To me, the point of a rifle is to own that 200–600 yard zone. That said, I make sure...
