PSA vs. S&W M&P15, resale, and Desert Tan

Pairing a completed upper to a completed lower is a matter of pushing two pins with a thumb, way easy. I'd guess that the PSA and M&P Sport are probably very close in resale and I've heard a lot of good about both guns. The furniture can be changed out for a desert tan set from Magpul for pretty...

    colt selling a stripped ar

Brilliant! Next year we'll just sell the pony logo on a piece of aluminum for $625.

    308, 30-06, 8mm mauser, or 7.62x54R

If you reload, I'd go 8mm and x54. Most expensive/most power and then cheapest/plenty acceptable power. No reloading, .30-06 and x54. The .308 only has cool guns going for it in this group. Not especially powerful, not excitingly cheap. But then I own an 8mm and a .30-06 so I'm just as biased as...

Do you hunt with an AR(15-10 whatever)?

Varmints only with my AR15 carbine so far. The .223 V-Max rounds left nothing to be desired for woodchucks. Michigan has a rule against .223 for deer too, so once my Harley is bought this spring I'll be finishing my 6.8SPC II build. After that, an 18-inch rifle length .223 Wylde for woodchucks...

    5.56 NATO or Wylde chamber

The wylde chamber has a little less freebore than the 5.56 but can shoot either 5.56 or .223 safely. Supposedly a little more accurate than the standard 5.56 chamber.

.30-06 shooters, what type of comercial ammo shoots best through your rifles?

Federal Fusion 150gr works best in my Savage 111. Core-Lokt worked well in other guns but they give patterns rather than groups in this one.

    Windham Rifle

I've had my SRC for about two years. Rounds were hard to come by for much of this time but I've got probably 800-1000 through it with no problems. It's more accurate than I am as well. On its own, it looks good in terms of fit and finish. When held up next to my dad's (recent) Bushmaster it...

Help on which gun to get

As much as I love my AR it's illegal to hunt deer in my state with the 5.56/.223. So if your state allows rifles in the future it may not allow a small caliber and I'd bear that in mind. As far as bolt actions go I have nothing but praise for my Savage 111. I think the scoped package with...

New centerfire Single Six on the horizon!

Went in to my usual gun store today for one... Allocated. They'll call me when they get one but no idea when that will be. Anyone seen one yet?

    Registration

I support registration of all firearms possessed by our civil servants. Once the police abide by this common sense gun law we will all be safer.

    Remi 760 in 8mm? Loving the .308!

I'm pretty sure they have the same rim diameter, same bolt face. The problem might come from the .308 being a short action and 8mm Mauser being intermediate or long action. A rifle in .30-06 or .270 could be converted without that problem though. As far as barrels, I wouldn't know where to look...

    First time AR-15 buying advice

Take a look at the Windham Weaponry SRC. I've got one and love it. It's a good place to start from. Doesn't have any sights included but the price is low enough you'll have money left over for whatever optics you want. I'd also second the advice of buying a few Pmags and ammo.

.223 Range rifle. Bolt action Budget?

While I don't have any experience with the Axis, I've heard a lot of good things about them accuracy-wise. The main complaint with them that I know of is the trigger. This can be fixed by finding an Axis II which just came out. It has the Accutrigger, which I have and think it's an awesome...

    30-06... Looking for Recommendations

It's going to be at the top of your budget, but the Savage 114 in .30-06 with a Leupold or Redfield Revolution would be a good fit to what you want. 22" barrel, 1-10 twist, blued/wood. The 110 Trophy Hunter would also fit, for about $100 less, and includes a Nikon scope. The scope is one I'm not...

Moving up from handguns to long guns

I'd recommend a look at .22 WMR. It's got more velocity, does a bit better in the wind and has a better 100yd trajectory than the .22LR. I don't have a .17 but friends do and like them a lot too. If you reload, .223 can be a fairly inexpensive round too. I have an AR and will admit that it is an...

    PTR91 information

I've been thinking about a PTR-91 too. If you get time, I wouldn't mind hearing what you think of it when it arrives. Fit/Finish, Accuracy, Reliability. Oh and pictures. Lots of pictures.

    22 WMR Ruger vs Savage?

I've got a Savage 93 in 22WMR that's probably about 15 years old. It is far more accurate than I am and I tend to believe that a new one with the Accutrigger would be even better. It's a lot more shrill/piercing of a sound but packs significantly more punch than the 22LR. The woodchucks along...

    Bipod for pistol...SBR?

OK thanks guys. I had heard that the broomhandle Mauser pistol had an exemption for its buttstock and didn't know if the Ruger Charger was another similar case. Wanted to be sure to stay out of hot water. Depending on money I should be able to crank this build out in the next 3 to 96 months.

    Bipod for pistol...SBR?

As the title indicates, I'm wondering if I can attach a bipod to an AR-15 pistol and NOT create an NFA violation. I don't have a tax stamp or any of the components yet, but knowing the answer will tell me whether to start buying parts or not. I don't really want to start the tax stamp process...

    Hunting With Classic Firearms

My first few years hunting (woodchucks, raccoons, possum...) were with my grandpa's 1937 Springfield single shot 20 ga. He bought it for $7.00 back then. I put a serious dent in the varmint population with that gun and used it to learn to break clays too.
