It seems no matter what size case I use the plunk test is the same as the picture. Everything works and shots ok. I am doing a load work up with LongShot starting at 5.0 to a max of 5.8 at 1.150 OAL.
I'll keep in touch.
Ok, this is what I have. All cartridges plunk just fine. In both pictures the barrel on the left is from my CZ 75b and the one on the right is from my Beretta PX-4 Storm. Both are 9mm. In picture one, reloads, both rounds are 1.150 OAL. In picture two, factory, both rounds are 1.152 OAL. They...
Thanks everyone. I have to take all this in and compare it to what I was doing. It does sound like most of what I was doing was on track.
I'll get back to you all later.
Grubbylab:
So if my pistols plunk test works a 1.150 then I should start my load work up with the min load and work my way up using 1.150 OAL? All my factory bought ammo OAL is always between 1.142 to 1.154 OAL with no problems.
Grubbylabs:
I did a plunk test when I first got my CZ-75b. It sounded loud and crisp at 1.170. So how do you find a load for that OAL? The best bullet for a CZ is a Round Nose. Maybe I should use Power Pistol for jacketed bullets and use my Win 231 and LongShot for the plated.
Thanks for the...
I thought that with the 124gr plated, you should not go over the mid range.
Is this not true? Mid range would be 5.7 or 5.8. Jacketed bullet loads are 5.7 to 6.4. Is this true?
THR,
I believe I owe the reloaders of THR an apology for my comments made in my earlier post. I should have sat back, taken a deep breath and thought about what was said instead of reacting in a way unbecoming a fellow reloader. For this I am sorry. Below is how I should have written my post...
Ok guys let stop taking my head off. I call Xtreme and they told me to call the powder manufacturer. If you look at the NUMBERS and look at the powder being used you will see that my max number is mid range jacketed bullets. I went through 4 manuals for jacketed numbers. I just wanted to see if...
I am not sure of a power pistol handload for Xtreme plated 124 gr RN bullets in 9mm.
My math shows me a mim load of 5.13 and a max load of 5.76 using Power Pistol Powder.
Am I in the ballpark? If not please give me the right loads.
Thanks,
Lee
OAL
I was wrong on bullet type. I'm using Nosler 135 gr. JHP not TMJ. I will take them apart and go with 1.125 OAL. I'm loading for a Springfield XD 40. Plunk test works all the way to 1.135 OAL. Thanks for all the help.
The Lyman manual shows 135 gr. TMJ 40 s&w with Power Pistol to have a OAL of 1.085. I made up 5 bullets and had to stop because the bullet was in the case so much you could see and feel where the case stops on the bullet. The case goes past where the bullet starts to taper. I think I should stop...
rc
rc, I have done the plunk test and plunked very nicely at 1.170 with a 115 grain RN FMJ to my surprise. I even made test rounds, no powder or primer, and most ejected great at 1.170 OAL. When I got down to 1.167 OAL all test rounds chambered and ejected with no problem. I just want to know...
My CZ 9mm, from all tests, max OAL is 1.170 unless I did something wrong. So if min is 1.120 and max is 1.170, then where do I start my load make up? The factory ammo I used OAL was between 1.146 to 1.157. I have read that the longer the better. I use Power Pistol, LongShot and Win 231 powders...
I just started reloading Barry's plated 124 gr RN bullets. I have read that the loads should not go any higher than mid range. My question is if the velocity stays under 1200 fps can I increase my load past mid range? I will be using Power Pistol, Win 231 and LongShot powders.
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for all the help. I have a Lee 4 hole turret press. For now I am using Long shot powder and Remington round nose bullets. I will try and look into everything that was suggested and get back to all of you. Thanks.
I don't understand when I set up the seating die to 1.125 OAL, it seats the first bullet correctly, but then the next bullets OAL is 1.115 or 1.122 or 1.130 or 1.135. I think you get what I mean. I seem to have the die tight in the turret. What am I doing wrong?
Anyway I reloaded 40 rounds...
