    Welcome Back, Mr. Nightcrawler

Ordered one of the signed copies, had to since I followed this thread from the beginning. Good job getting it published guys!

    9MM Carry Choice

I'm going to chime in with those suggesting the BHP or K9.

Need a new CCW. Help me decide...

Kahr is the only one I personally have experience with. I have a K9 for IWB carry, and a PM9 for pocket carry. I would suggest either of them for CCW. I'm very happy with my XD45 Compact, but don't have any experience with the 9mm Sub-Compact, so I'll plead the fifth on that.

    9mm for a left hander?

Put one more tick down for a CZ 85. Ambi safety and slide release. You can purchase a Kadet .22 caliber conversion kit that replaces the slide and magazine. Very accurate, and gives you the option of carrying either cocked and locked or DA/SA mode. If you prefer that your gun has a decocker...

Needed in Austin, TX - XD45 sear spring

Welcome back from the sandbox. Part of the reluctance for some for the XD was the policy that Springfield of not selling parts for it. I haven't heard that they have changed that policy so you'll probably have to send your gun into them for repair. I haven't had to repair mine yet, so I can't...

If you lived in the year 1920...

Colt SAA Wells Fargo model in .45 Colt. No way you'd make me try one of them there newfangled automatic handguns, they're a passing fad, you'll see! Give me a Colt any day, if it was good enough for my grandpappy in the Indian Wars, it's good enough for me. ;) Tex

    Kahr K9

I have one I purchased used, and I like it very much. It shoots as well as I do, plenty accurate for a carry gun. I used to think the trigger pull was too long when I first picked one up. This was cured for me when I fired a P11, which currently holds the crown for longest/heaviest pull in a...

So I was loaned a Rock Island 1911

Offer him $300. If he takes it be satisfied that you got a good deal on used 1911 that you'll have fun shooting. If he turns it down then you avoided a used piece of junk that would have broken on you the first time you took it to the range post purchase. Rationalization, it's not just for...

    Springfield XD 10MM!!!

So what does it take to make a .45 into a 10mm? Take a .45ACP barrel blank and ream it out to the correct bore for a 10mm? Different recoil spring? Or a whole new slide? Tex

I'm with the ban and lock group. The thread title is just cruel. ;) Tex

Has Carrying Made You a More Responsible Person?

At the risk of sounding flip, becoming a more responsible person has made me carry.

    New DSA STG58 Carbine (photos)

My Stg-58 Rifle showed up and I shot it the other day. I ran a couple of mags of South African through it, and it was boring in it's reliability. Fit and finish is very nice, only mark on it was a brass kiss on the receiver where it had been test fired after assembly. The barrel and bore were...

What kind of rifle can do this?

It's been awhile since I read "Marine Sniper" so my recollection might be a little fuzzy, but wasn't Hathcock was shooting a M2 .50 BMG Machine Gun which was mounted on a tripod, and upon which he had mounted a scope, when taking that 2500 yard shot? Not that it's any less impressive, but not...

    Need advice for a Lefty

With the criteria of ambi-safety and external hammer the best choice is a Browning High Power or M-95 Detective. That said, the trigger can be improved by dropping in a new sear and hammer and losing the magazine disconnect. Tex

Just Picked up a Browning HP!

Sorry, didn't see this reply until today. I've actually got a C&S "no bite" hammer and sear on the Detective High Power that I carry. Haven't put one on my Mk3 yet, but I might. Tex

"Never tell a soul about your CCW"

I think sometimes that new CCWers have a "need" to tell others that they're carrying, some with an almost religious zeal. After all they've thought about self defense and gone to the trouble to get a license, and made a mental commitment to protect themselves. It's understandable to feel like...

I broke down. I'm so ashamed.

The only reason I've resisted the P225 so far is it has a little bump on the left side of the grip, a raised area around the magazine release button, which annoys me when I take a firing grip with my left hand. Would only be a problem for a southpaw, and I keep telling the little voice that...

    New DSA STG58 Carbine (photos)

Mine's coming soon hopefully. They just called my shop to confirm the credit card number. The owner says that DSA generally does that just prior to shipping. Good thing too, I feel a little silly having purchased battlepacks of ammo in a caliber I don't have a single firearm in... :) Tex

Why are FAL uppers serial numbered, but not the lower?

You're not alone. :) Most threads that involve explaining or understanding BATFE rulings and practices give me a headache. You have to remember not to apply logic. BATFE rulings and practices are the legal equivalent of the old parental standby, "Because I said so." You're not going to be...

    Kel-Tec Sub-2000 vs. Hi-Point 995

If they made a Sub 2000 that took High Power mags, I would buy it in a second. As it is, they don't have one that matches the mags for any of my current guns, and my interest is theoretical. I wanted a 9mm carbine for a long time, but never found one that was quite right, the MP5 clones were...
