Is 20 Rounds of 5.56 Enough?

That should be enough to neutralize 20 armed threats. That's a pretty bad day.

    Is gunsmithing a lost art?

Certainly the days of having a quality local gunsmith are all but over. In my experience, if you want specialized work done, you need to mail it out. But most people, will just buy another gun before they get the one they have fixed/improved. Or they have a gun that you can just snap more...

    If You Only had 3

Right now it would be my: 1) 7.62 Garand. Bought from the CMP when I was 18, re-barreled and match conditioned by me and my grandpa for shooting in NRA high power matches. I only shoot it a couple matches a year right now, but if I'm limited to three rifles, this is the one I want to finish...

Woman shoots through wall and kills ‘peeping Tom’ outside her Texas home, cops say

This is a true story, and I'm not embarrassed to retell it.: When I was 17 years old a friend and I were playing frisbee in the back yard. The frisbee went over the fence, after sunset, into the yard of a family that had moved in just a week or so before. I hopped the fence, went to get the...

"You never clean a .22 rifle"

My great-grandmother was a champion smallbore shooter, and set a world record in 1941. She lived to the tremendous old age of 107, and was around to take part in my early gun-handling exposure. A lovely woman known to many old time Camp Perry types. The story is her Remington Model 37 had over...

My favorite old shooter, Now show me yours

I don't have many to choose from, but this is the one I shot today, so it will get the shout out. Winchester Model 69a, made sometime in the 1940s, bought by me about 15 years ago at an antique store for $60. I have had its younger brother, a model 72a, made in the 50s, since I was a kid...

    I've Never Handloaded Before

This thread is getting kinda long, but I haven't seen anyone mention a dial caliper for measuring your overall length when setting up that seating die. Also a good idea to have a scale handy to confirm what your technique with the dipper actually throws in charge weight. Technique can vary the...

When You cant get your favorite powder, Time to think!

Red Dot also makes an excellent reduced load in military surplus rifles. If you aren't familiar, and are interested in a low recoil/economical alternative, search for CE Harris' "the load."

What some people go through for cleaning 100 pices of brass!

I spray mine with a garden hose and lay out on a towel to dry...and that's probably overkill.

First time using "BLO"/ boiled linseed oil. Intervals should be how long?

24 hours is a good rule of thumb, but climate dictates. In hotter and drier times of the year, you can get away with more, but what's the rush? The old stand by for number of coats was "once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year."
