The Accurate BB/Pellet Pistol Thread Inspired Me To Do A Little Shooting With My HW45

This Crosman 2300T has more than few tins of pellets through it! Ralph Brown gets the credit for the walnut grips. I do most of my shooting at 5 meters using targets scaled to simulate the difficulty of the 10 meter Olympic target. I wouldn't have time to shoot pistol if it weren't for my air...

    Accurate BB/Pellet Pistol?

Nice groups! The "smalltrap" target sheets for these informal fun matches will fit in your Gamo target trap (note you need to be forum member to access the downloads). Post up an entry! 5 Meter Air Pistol Match: http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?board=22.0 10 Meter AP Match...

Air gun scope - Which one?

UTG/Leapers scopes perform decently, hold up well to springer recoil and are a good value. They do run a bit on the heavy side though. The 44mm SWAT models are a good choice, or if you do not want the side wheel adjustable AO, the 40 mm hunter models with the AO ring on the front objective.

Pistol for pest elimination and general fun

Airguns of Arizona has an HW95 (same as R9) for $300+shipping. That, in 177, with a UTG 3-12x40AO Hunter Scope would be my choice for pest and plinking. Fun for field target too. You could go higher $ on the scope, but the UTG is decently bright and holds up to springer recoil.

    .22 hunting airgun

RWS Clones Are A Good Value The Ruger Air Magnum is a clone of the RWS 350 air rifle. This magnum springer in 22 (do NOT get in 177 - pellets will travel too fast to be accurate!) has a good trigger, plenty of power, and would fit your needs and budget well coming in around $150. The...

    20+ FPE Gas Piston Rifle

20 fpe and a gas piston (versus spring piston) is excluding some really nice options in the <$500 range. If you're after critters with an air gun, it's all about punching holes in just the right place. A 22 with 20 fpe will still not provide 22 LR powder burner shock and awe. Quality dome...

    Daisy 880

Lot to expect for $20... The Daisy 880 will be a fun plinker, but moving up to the $100 range there are some great values like the QB78D in CO2 (Crosman 160 clone, needs only a little trigger attention) or the spring piston Ruger Airhawk (a nice RWS 34 clone with a very nice trigger).

    357 Maximum vs 357 Magnum

In the carbine barrel, plain old 357 Magnum with slower powder (W296 or H110) is reaching its limits at, but will handle medium game out to 100 yards. And it will go oh so well with your revolver! That would be my choice. If you want more power than 357 Magnum has to offer in an encore...

    T/C Encore, Contenders, G2s..Confused

Yeah, I'm a big chicken for sure on 45-70. Anecdotal recoil reports have kept me from even trying one. I've pared my barrels down to 22LR match (2x32 scope), 357 Mag (2x32 scope) and 30-30 (2-6x32 scope). I have been tempted to pick up a G2 frame to get a black powder barrel, but resisted...

    T/C Encore, Contenders, G2s..Confused

I agree. Which is why I stated: And actually, among 35 Rem, 44 Mag and 30-30, the mighty 35 Rem is the kindest round to the frame based on the simple figure of merit force calculation I suggested. Base diameters in inches for these cartridges are 0.458, 0.457 and 0.422, respectively; SAAMI...

    FMJ 9mm for CCW?

Goes bang. Makes hole. Good penetration. Even better than 380 FMJ. No worries.

    BB/Pellet rifle

Given pest control is not in your future, and your $100 budget: The Daisy 953 is a great suggestion. The Daisy 953 has a rifled barrel and is a single stroke: pump-load-shoot; not pump, pump, pump, pump...shoot. Big difference. You want at least ~500 fps for wadcutter pellets to make clean...

Problem with my SP101 357 MAG.

Is the cylinder rubbing on the forcing cone? That is not necessarily a bad thing for velocity, but you will need to clean every box of rounds.

    BB/Pellet rifle

Check out Crosman's web-site. Under the "Airguns" drop down is the "Custom Shop". The 2400KT shoulder stocked carbine makes a great practice shooter. Yes, it is CO2 powered, but you get about 50-60 shots a 12 gram cartridge. Shooting cost is not an issue. This makes a great 10 meter wad...

    T/C Encore, Contenders, G2s..Confused

Ranked in strength, stongest to weakest: Encore G2 Contender G1 Contender The G2 can handle blackpowder, which is kind of cool, and has more steel in the sides of the frame to resist stretching. As noted: trigger not as cool as that on the G1 and the grips are different than the G1. The...

Thinking about getting a Marlin 336

The 30-30 is a 200 yard deer rifle. If you can shoot better than that from field positions (a bench rest doesn't count), then consider something like a 7-08. Otherwise, buy the 30-30 and enjoy. No worries. It will work great for your purposes.

Sighting in a .357 Lever Action

    1-4X on a 357 lever rifle? Guess my 30-30 with a Weaver V3 (1-3X) is underscoped :D

    Handgun Scope

Yes, 2X is what you want for a SBH. I have a 2x on a 10" 357 and a 2-6x on a 14" 30-30 T/C Contender, both Bushnell Trophy. The 2-6x would be a waste on the 357, which has about the same trajectory as whatever your SBH is chambered in. Field of view is more precious than magnification in a...
