    2024 Hunting Picture Thread

England is a great place to hunt . Lowland deer stalking , woodland deer stalking, differs greatly from much of mainland Europe. Deer stalking, not talking about Highland stalking is relative new compered to Europe. Up to the 60s fallow and roe deer were often treated as vermin and shot on...

    2024 Hunting Picture Thread

Traveled back to the UK to catch up with the children, grandkids and family and also a few days hunting. A Swedish mate came with me. A all round great weekend with 3 roe bucks, 6 muntjac and 2 fallow between myself, mate and our host. My Swedish mate managed to shoot another gold medal...

    2024 Hunting Picture Thread

Its been a strange year for hunting so far. Lots of rain at the beginning of the season with all the lying up place for boar flooded. On a driven day its not uncommon to shoot double figures on the boar but this season Its been one or two per day. I've shot two rifle shots and bagged a boar...

    What's your favorite hunting knife?

I bought a Imperial Double Eagle knife in the US back in the 70s, $9 It cost if I remember correct. I've done hundreds of deer with that little knife. For my 65th birthday I had a knife made by Stuart Mitchell who is a knife smith from Sheffield, England. Its amazingly sharp and I use it...

    African Swine Fever

No doubt it would thin out the wild hog population but would make you enemy #1 with the US pig industry. Its so infectious that if it ever crossed into the human population and had the same affect as it does on pigs it would make covid seem like a mild summer cold.

    African Swine Fever

Its thought that the infection may have come from a compsting site. A large area around where the outbreak is closed for all public access and forestry work. I'm hoping that the infection stays confined to its current area. We have our first driven boar day the first of October. The...

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

My father was a man who never had much money but he said to me , always buy the best you can afford. The Miruku won't be a safe queen. I have a sidelock double rifle I use for my hunting in all weathers and at the end of the season I steam out the dents in the stock, a good clean and some...

    The Kephart

I'm a fussy old sod when it comes to knife blade shape and design. That knife I like very much 👍.

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

I've got a Miruku mk70 grade 6 to pick up as soon as my licence comes through next week. It was a case of want not need. I'll be testing it on the ducks early in September.

What are the most expensive guns currently being made for sale?

I looked at a new Mauser 98 in 8x57 at a hunting show here in Sweden back in May. The Swedish kronor price was about the equivalent to $16000. Nice rifle though.

Is this soldier carrying a Martini-Henry?

Here's a Greener GP with multi choke. https://www.gunrestoration.co.uk/guns/guns-for-sale-details.asp?GunID=426 It must be over 50 years ago I bought the one I had and it was a old gun when I bought it.

Is this soldier carrying a Martini-Henry?

I've seen those Greener shot guns used by the Indian police for riot control in old news footage. Many years ago I had a Greener GP with the Martini action that was fitted with multi chokes. That was many years before multichokes became main stream. About 20 years ago I had a Greener GP with...

    Tree stand lifespan

I built 3 Lean too hunting stands about 20 years ago. 25x 1.5mm square tube and then galvanised. I've just taken them to a new hunting ground and they were still in great condition with not a spot of rust. They may need new seats in a few years.

Husqvarna .32-20 Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle

The military use .223 in their rifle that is soon the be changed to another calibre. No idea what that will be. I would have thought the .7.62 is used in machine guns.

Husqvarna .32-20 Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle

The 6.5x55 was really all that people had to shoot with in the past with it being the military round of the day. There was plenty of cheap ammo for practice and competition then. Most towns still have a rifle range. Today the .308 is the most popular. My LGS has 46, 6.5x55 for sale and 267...

Husqvarna .32-20 Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle

The white tail were a gift from Finnish immigrants in Minnesota the interweb informs me. 6.5x55 is still alive and well in Sweden. What a coincidence ;).

Husqvarna .32-20 Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle

Well the 30-30 is a class 2 firearm so the largest deer you can shoot with class 2 is roe deer or beaver, badgers. .32-20 I would think is a class 2 but would be as rare as hens teeth here in Sweden, I would have thought. 6.5x55 is the smallest round that can be used on large hoofed game and...

    Mass shootings in Europe

Serbia has had two mass shootings recently. As I understand it Serbia has quite strikt gun laws but Serbia like alot of the Balkans is awash with firearms. The Balkans are the main supplier of illegal weapons to the rest of Europe.

If you had a $1,000,000,000; gun shopping spree - Dumbest Thread Ever

I think I need a larger wallet. Here in Sweden we are very nearly a cashless society. Our banks don't have money any more. Its not possible to take out nor pay in money at the bank these days. At a ATM you can take out and pay in cash. Many shops only take card payments and it very common to...

If you had a $1,000,000,000; gun shopping spree - Dumbest Thread Ever

I'm a very rich man. Its just that I don't have a lot of money. I've a 100 mtr rifle range in my back garden, deer in the forest I can shoot as many as I want, if I wanted too. If I did have lots of dosh I would be shooting driven boar at least twice a week all over Europe with a few days...
