I purchased my first new barrel. It arrived today and it is covered in metal guard anti corrosion. What is the best/safest way to remove this? Do I clean it out of the barrel?
Thanks
Win brass has the dirtiest primer pockets of all the brass I've ever collected. It is the brass I use most on my 650 for loading 380 & 9mm. I've never had the experience you are but I ultrasonic clean my brass until the primer pockets are clean. IME Win range brass has to stay in the cleaner...
9mm bulge
I load 9mm sized to 358 and had a similar problem. I would run a batch of 500 and about 25 wouldn't pass plunk test and were bulged on one side. It started when I started loading on a progressive press. It turned out that I wasn't holding the bullet straight enough when setting it on...
Today's hunting trip
I'm so glad I found this thread! Last nite my lady was going bananas with the flyswatter and gripin up a storm about the flies. Not sure what happened, but we had a bunch. Seeing this thread reminded me a friend gave me one of these awhile back. My son and I have been...
WST
Thanks for the clarification guys! Plan on using with Lyman 452374 & a NOE H&G 68 copy lead boolit. Read there are a lot of competitive metal target shooters using WST in 45acp.
Just started loading 45acp for my little ladies new toy! Its my first time to use WST and it looks way different than any powder I've used before. Kinda Grey like ash?

Yep! Same happens to me with 9mm on my 650. Starting bullet crooked causes bulge on one side of case. I have to go nice n slow loading cast in 9mm on my Dillon.
LVR powder
In my 336 I worked a load up to 36.2gr in Hornady brass w/Fed primer and had avg velocity of 2332 in a 5 shot string with the 160gr FTX bullet.
30-30 30
The 30-30 has probably put more venison on the table than any other caliber in history. No good for deer? I've never had a Texas Whitetail or Axis survive my Marlin ever.
The Speer 12th edition lists magnum primers for several powders in those calibers. Reloadron listed most of them. The only powder I use in 30-30 that calls for a LRMP is H335.
1.135 was the COL my Bersa liked with plated 115 & 124 grainers. I usually make them just short enough to pass the plunk test and test feeding with a dummy round. Then work up from a low point in the load data.
Rl15 30-30
I developed the most accurate load my Marlin 336 has shot with the Sierra #2000 and RL15. I bought it because H4895 was nowhere to be found a year ago. Sometimes these shortages produce positive things. Also found that H335 does well with 170 grainers.
Here's how it worked for me.
I started reloading 30-30 with a hand Lee loader about 20 yrs ago. It worked and was all I needed to hunt. Then I walked into an estates sale and bought a ton of stuff. RCBS RC press, scale, powder trickler, Ohaus powder dropper, ABC' s of reloading, and a bunch of...
