Pawn Shop Gods Smile on Me Again

Appreciate this thread, Just bought a used 64-3 at a local pawn shop in a big city. It was the only gun in the case worth looking at Paid too much, but it looks like new and was exactly what I was looking for. Didn't care that I paid too much, $675. It was too easy. Been looking out for a Ruger...

    22lr squirrel ammo?

CCI CB Longs was the go-to in the squirrel guns on our norcal farm. Accurate in any gun, but not so much after 50 yards. Very quiet. The jack russels would be on mr. bushytail rat at the first bounce. Great fun and games in the orchard.

    new 30 carbine blackhawk

After years of M1 Carbine fun, a new blackhawk will be in hand in 2 days. From reading forums, it's loud, accurate, mild recoil, case length is critical...what else do I need to know? Got 3 factory loads and 2 mild handloads to test. I am no pistolero, but I got my first six shooter in 1960...

    Ladder testing routine.

What works for you? I have been testing for Optimal Charge Weight for M1 Carbine at 50 yards, and Stag H7 in 6.8 at 100 yards. All 5 round groups. Wondering if I can improve my technique, which is shooting a round every 2 minutes with longer breaks between groups. In theory to maintain an even...

.30 cal. M1 Carbine soft point

Huh? Whut? I got a bunch of boxes of Sierra 2100's lined up on the bench. Is there something I should know? Factory SP's, especially Magtech shoot good groups.

    4227 in 30 carbine data

IMR 4227 is different from H110, based on just load testing a pound of each. 4227 gives 1594 fps at 12.7 grains, max COAL. I tested up to 13.5 gr. which gave 1669 fps. But I was loading for accuracy and the sweet spot is somewhere in the 12.7 to 13.0 range. Above that accuracy falls off, at...

What exactly is a "truck gun?"

Another vote for the M1 Carbine. Light, handy, reliable, and capable of dealing with whatever might be a problem. But I wouldn't subject a veteran USGI to that daily wear and tear. So anything else will have to do. Mini 14 Ranch, or AR15 gets the call to duty on our farm.

    Handloads for 30 Carbine

Been using X-treme 110 gr. RN copper jacketed (.308"), and Sierra #2100 110 gr (.307") bullets. Weighing cases of identical headstamps, LC72, CBC (Magtech), and bandolier cases stamped M1 30 Carbine. I was surprised at how much they vary within 1 headstamp and quite a bit of difference in...

    Handloads for 30 Carbine

So far my best 100 yard 5 shot groups have been with 14.0 grains of H110, X-treme 308 bullet, loaded at max 1.680", trimmed to 1.285", an open group at 3.17". Also got a 3.29" with all the same, except with the Sierra .307 bullet, but 3 of the 5 were really close. But most of my many batches...

    Handloads for 30 Carbine

Where do you start the process? My approach ain't working. Getting very inconsistent groups at 100 yards. Maybe the limitations are my old eyes at that range. Does one start at 50 yards, or what? I have had good success loading for scoped rifles, and my XD 40 loads shoot about like good factory...

1K's stupid "what's this powder good for" question of the week: Li'l Gun/AutoComp?

Try it and see. Yeah, that is what this reloading is all about. Good advice. As soon as I find that sweet spot with H110, I'll just run the same parameters using LilGun and check back in with the results.

1K's stupid "what's this powder good for" question of the week: Li'l Gun/AutoComp?

Hmm. Just started loading for 30 Carbine with H110. Getting promising results on targets. Have some unopened Lil Gun. Is there a reason why it would be a better powder than the old standby H110 in an old but good carbine. Anyone tried a side by side comparison? Or are they so similar that it...

    30 Carbine OAL question

Subtle shape variations of the SP bullet nose, as Velocette points out, seem the likely culprit. See if OAL variations are reduced with jacketed bullets. I am new to 30 Carbine loading, and haven't found any SP bullets, so don't know for sure. But I do know that SP 110's from factory Winchester...

    M1 Carbine primers

Ooops. Forgot to add that the first 700 rounds of 6.8 were with Winchester WSR primers. No slamfires...yet...

    M1 Carbine primers

Hoo...Ahh! Post a question on this forum and you don't get a primer on the subject, you get a thorough schooling. Thanks, ya'll, for so generously sharing your depth of knowledge and experience, +P. Very helpful to myself and man others, no doubt. Confident with new understanding, I beat it...

    M1 Carbine primers

First time handloading for my 2 USGI warbabies. The bucket of once-fired brass is full. What is the preferred primer for this cartridge? Hodgdon says CCI 400. Lyman says Remington 6 1/2. Others have recommended CCI 41, WSR. I used CCI 41's in my initial batch of 100. Had two failures to fire...

    You have only one choice.

It would depend on the societal conditions outside the locked farm gates. If it was all peaceful, it would be "...all time favorite, I could never part with...", my first love, the USGI M1 Carbine. But if things outside the gate were not all sweetness and light and kumbayah, it would be the Stag...

What do you consider to be the perfect "truck gun"?

A lifetime Marlin 81 22 LR worked for me on the farm forever, because small varmints were the primary mission and it is accurate at short range. But since the politics went bad, I figured I needed something semiauto with mag. My M1 Carbines seemed the right choice, but they are too special to...

Going to buy xtreme, bullet choice help

I just started loading for my XD40-525. So here are my unqualified results. The 180 Xtreme RNFP with 5.2gr of SR7625 has given me my best 25 yard, 5 round group so far, off a sandbag of 2.88". I also have loaded and tested 4 other bullets so far. All with the same powder which was all I had at...

Is a USGI 30 Carbine an assault weapon

The govmint or law can define the AW anyway they want. To my mind any semiauto with some mag cap would qualify in an assault. If the zombies ever come over the wall, grabbing my "44 Underwood would be a good choice.
