    Ankle Holster

Sorry about that. I knew that Lou had died and that his excellent products were no longer being made under his name. But I wasn't sure of the date, and a quick search led me to a web page that gave me data that wasn't right. It was on the internet, so it had to be right...my bad!

How Do I Use This Thing (FA Brass Tumbler)

    Ankle Holster

https://www.ritchieholsters.com/ Lou died in 2015, and his shop closed. But Ritchie worked with Lou and co-designed the ankle holster Lou sold. The same product lives on, made by Ritchie and his three-man team.

Why Do You Carry A Gun?

This is my answer to someone who is honestly interested in why I carry and train with a handgun: "I used to enjoy going to a restaurant in Trolley Square in Salt Lake City. I was trained, was competent with a handgun, had great carry gear, and it was legal, but I only carried occasionally in...

    Ankle Holster

Everything below is my opinion. And is based on my training and experience. YMMV. Ankle holsters are best used with light guns. Say, 12-15 ounces. The best location for an ankle gun for a right-handed shooter is on the inside of the left ankle. I do not have to lift my pant-leg with my...

Firing a DA revolver in SA mode

For gun games and recreation, I shoot revolvers in both SA and DA modes. I own SAO, DAO, and DA/SA revolvers and I like them all. But the revolvers that I carry and train with for defensive purposes are all double action only (DAO). That is that the parts of the hammer used to cock these guns...

    Trigger Job on Minty 19-3

I really appreciate everyone's comments about the relative abundance of this particular version of the model 19 in the grand scheme of things. It's clear that I have something that is nice, but not unique. That perspective is very helpful. This gun is going to become a shooter. Shot a lot...

    Things to Not Do

I went back to verify that I didn't miss any context in your post (#106) or any immediately preceeding it. Please revise the text I cited according to your response. And then feel free to delete posts 133-137 if you like.

    Things to Not Do

The basis for your assertion. Did you just make my point?

    Things to Not Do

This is quite an assertion: I've seen no evidence here that supports it. Care to share?

For those of us who live in an open carry state

In my state, open carry, permitless concealed carry (often called constitutional carry), and permitted concealed carry are all legal. Details vary, however. For example, only those citizens who have permits can carry handguns in schools. I have a Utah resident carry permit. Limiting my...

duty size gun carry for ccw

I've carried a large pistol strong-side IWB for years. Only occassionally carried an airweight J-frame as a BUG in a off-side front pants pocket. Neither of these really works well for vehicle carry, though. I didn't like that. Especially in light of this trend in carjackings since 2019...

    Trigger Job on Minty 19-3

I've tackled triggers on stuff that doesn't really matter...like Taurus revolvers. And strikers. I've polished surfaces, experimented with different springs, cleaned and lubed, and learned to avoid buggering screws. And really liked the results. But I've not done anything on my older Smiths...

    Trigger Job on Minty 19-3

Thank you for your comments! I'm a shooter, not a collector, so the pleasure a gun gives me comes from the holes in the target, rather than from just the having. When I bought this gun (maybe 15 years ago) I had an itch for an adjustable-sighted k-frame to shoot a lot of .38 specials...

    Trigger Job on Minty 19-3

I have a minty 19-3. 4" barrel. Almost no turn line. Original grips are in good shape. No holster or cylinder wear (99% at least). P&R. No box or tools. But it has a mediocre factory DA trigger press. My question: how much would a trigger job change the value of this gun to a collector?

Any firearm can be used self-defense in a pinch. Do you agree?

OP, thank you for touching on your specific self-defense-related skills with the hardware you own. I am glad that you have trained. And practiced. Hard. I believe that every serious self-defender should do this with their tools. But I think that you'd agree that lots of gun owners say that...

Any firearm can be used self-defense in a pinch. Do you agree?

Mike is a great example of a shooter who has put in the work to extract every bit of performance out of older tech like lever action rifles and single action revolvers. Mike dropped from the same mold as the shooters who I observed in the classes who chose to learn to use the older hardware...

Any firearm can be used self-defense in a pinch. Do you agree?

I've seen people use scoped lever and bolt action rifles in multi-day defensive rifle classes. Their splits on multi-shot strings were slower than those who used EBRs. Their reloads were slower. Getting the rifle on target from a ready position, especially for close-in bad guys, was slower...
