300 Win Mag at 30-06 levels

Generally speaking I agree that the reason to have a magnum caliber is to run it up at magnum speeds sometimes. Otherwise why bother. I disagree that it has to be run at 100% throttle 100% of the time. Even if other people refer to it as crippled or neutered. The nice thing about a...

300 Win Mag at 30-06 levels

I realized that many people would have this belief and that's why I specifically asked for experience with accuracy with the cartridge at the starting loads listed in most books. Again, I have experience with using an 'underpowered' round, and have personally decided against it. Ethically as a...

300 Win Mag at 30-06 levels

300 Win Mag - don't seem to be able to edit the title. I have a 30-06 rifle that is for me the perfect deer and hog rifle. However, it gets claimed by my wife when we hunt together. So then I end up using a .243 with 100gr bullets. Last weekend a large hog (250-275#) walked out and it just...

    Expect new African hunting uproar.

That is my personal view also, eat what u kill. However, I am comfortable with other people with other opinions, especially knowing the meat is used properly by someone else.

    Montana Hiking Gun Poll

Weight is a big factor when hiking. I have a 686 4 inch, a ruger 45 colt 4.xx bbl, and a g10. The g10 wins with the right combo of power and weight and rounds. The 45 colt with ruger only loads is quite a bit more powerful, but weight matters. If I was hiking more than 5 miles, I'd consider...

    Best low light scopes?

I've got a Simmons whitetail classic 6.5-20x50 that is better in moonlight than my leupold vxII 3-9x40. Both less than 3 years old. The leupold is certainly higher-quality and clearer but not as good in extreme low light.

The best Companies to deal with!!

I've had excellent service from S&w when I had a brass split during firing and lock the gun up. Warne scope rings was also excellent.

    Ending the animal's life...

I recently got a book on the killing and butchering of animals. It recommended a top-down head shot for most all animals when solely trying to dispatch them. Sometimes where an X would form on a line between the eyes and opposite ears, sometimes eyes to opposite horns (or where they would be)...
