Sierra GameChanger - New tipped hunting bullets

I ordered a box of the .243 90 grainers to try in my 6mm. If I can keep them at 1" or better I will kill some deer with them this fall. This particular rifle seems to prefer a flat base but hopefully I can get these to shoot halfway decent.

    Two loads for 243

85 grain Sierra Varminter for both deer and coyotes is what I run in both 243 and 6mm Remington. Load it on top of a max dose of IMR-4350 over CCI or Remington primers and start killing critters. It will punch through any deer that walks and doubt one will ever run over 25 yards on you. Try it...

Older model Remington 700 ADL & BDL

BDL, hinged floorplate and black fore end/grip cap. ADL was blind magazine and didn't have the high gloss finish to the wood or black caps on forearm/grip.

Is my son's used Wxby rifle a 300 Winmag or 300 Wxby Mag?

This is like the kid at the gunshop telling the owner that he had missed a buck because the owner hadn't boresighted his rifle correctly the day before. Some people really don't need to own guns.

    270 Win. woods load

I have used Sierra 130 GK on more than a few deer and like the instant death but hate the mess. The 150 Sierra PH is no longer offered just a GK and it might be ok slowed down but the idea of a Hornady SP or Speer whether it be a Hotcor or Grand Slam are what interests me the most right now. I...

    270 Win. woods load

I am looking to load up some 150 grain bullets for my new 270 to use deer hunting as a woods load. Shots will be 100 yards or less with most going under 0. I feel that a 150 will be best for not ruining the front end of a deer at close range but I don't want a bullet so tough it pencils through...

    Smoothing CZ bolt action??

I ended up just sanding the bolt body with 1000 grit sandpaper and also hit the tops/bottoms of the lugs. A little oil mixed with graphite to work the bolt several times and I am pretty happy with the results. I may hit the bolt body on a wheel with jewelers rouge to polish it up and see what...

    Smoothing CZ bolt action??

I have some Iosso and a stone for the bottoms of lugs. I have figured out that most of the drag is the bolt body, it has little "ribs" from machining. Hoping some compound, 0000 steel wool, and wadding polish smooth it up and a light coat of Rem oil to finish it up. Definitely wont be shutting...

    Smoothing CZ bolt action??

I have done a little research and toothpaste as a lapping compound has been mentioned as has a very fine valve lapping compound. I may try a little polishing rouge on my buffing wheel that I polished brass for my frontstuffer and see what that does. Its not an issue of bolt closing or opening...

    Smoothing CZ bolt action??

I went and picked up my new 550 American today and it is a very nice rifle. The grain was not as nice as I had hoped for until I got it out of the shop in the sunlight and then all of the fiddleback came out. I was not real impressed with the finish of the scope rings so a pair of Leupold...

New pound of 10 year old powder?

I am loading from an 8# can of IMR4895. Bought it from an individual in2005 and can had never been opened, dated 1978. I told him I would buy it IF I could crack the seal and smell it and make sure it was still good. My 22-250 still shoots some of its best groups with that powder.

6.5 Swede Which 140 for deer?

No Kevlars available due to the company that builds the stock not keeping CZ in stock with the. Tomorrow I am going to see if walnut is available. If no walnut 6.5 Swedes to be had a 270 Win is my next choice I think, I know where one is at brand new.

Heavy you say it "drills" through them, does that mean it is not expanding with minimal damage to the animal or are you saying complete penetration?

6.5 Swede Which 140 for deer?

I am looking at getting the Kevlar stocked model which sits in an aluminum bedding block so hopefully it shoots ok without needing a bedding job. The smith I use assembles CZ's safari rifles for them so he should be able to help me should the need arise. I will call CZ tomorrow to find the twist...

6.5 Swede Which 140 for deer?

From what I am finding out the CZ is twisted 1:8.66. I thought that would be plenty fast for 140's but no heavier.

6.5 Swede Which 140 for deer?

I am getting ready to try and get my dealer get me a CZ 550 American in 6.5x55 on the way. This will be my primary deer gun and a treestand rifle. Almost all shooting will be at 100 yards or less with one possibility of a 175 yard shot in a certain stand. I am leaning towards the 140 grain class...
