My younger (25 year old) brother and I have been looking at it for a year now ourselves. We both want one. So I'm happy to have found this thread

question: have any of ya'll noticed these help with recoil or grouping? Or is it mostly a looks thing?

    Most powerful reasonable caliber?

the largest rifle caliber I've shot is 30-06 and it was manageable in a decent sized gun. I've also shot a .50 AE that a friend has, and it was more doable than I thought--but that might have been the muzzle brake helping!

    Calibers going away?

the .257 better not go away :( I love that round and my grandfather has an awesome rifle chambered in it. On a more serious note, there's simply so many hundreds of cartridges that it makes sense for mainstream manufacturers not to focus on a lot of the really niche ones. I'm sure there'll be...

what is "good" iron sights marksmanship?

    Replacing a stock

Thanks TXHillbilly. I'm not looking to spend tons since this is the first time I've done this--but I'm liking the look of a richards stock and their selection is damn nice and prices are reasonable. I prefer wood/laminate to synthetic just for looks.

    Replacing a stock

OK. I'm getting an older but still good savage .243 (110 model) for a steal because its stock is broken. This'll be my first real project rifle and I'm kind of nervous about replacing a stock and maybe a trigger. I've looked at youtube videos from Boyd's and Midway some, but they have a...

my insight on prices on ammo

As bad as .22's gotten to find, I'm debating buying a 38 single action to teach my wife to shoot with. Ammo's pricier but at least I can FIND it.
