The technicians at Colt are really good at what they do!

Shot from an arm rest means it was bench rested when test fired. 6 o'clock hold means the front sight was underneath the very bottom of the bullseye. Think "apple on a stick" Matt LaBonte is a very capable shooter. Glad your pistola got sorted out.

New-to-me Sig P220 Carry has an issue.

This is most likely the issue. The slide stop spring attached to the locking insert probably needs a tension adjustment or is bent. Also debur the slide stop and the notch for it on the slide.

    Arbor press vs. hammer

Arbor presses are used quite often when you have the ability to set them up properly. I use one with a brass tip to install 1911 sights all the time and have used them in the past for pins and such. The difficult part is making the jigging to hold some of the work. The amateur gunsmith...

    CeraKote on a Colt 1911?

It isn't really necessary to polish the feed ramp on a properly Cerakoted gun. Valkman, if the applicator is only charging 80 dollars for the job, expect 80 dollars worth of work. 80 bucks to properly strip, sandblast, degrease, spray without debris, cure and reassemble makes me think "where...

    My First Custom 1911

It looks nice but I would want the tool marks on the bobtail smoothed out.

Advice needed on Hack Gunsmith muzzle brake job

Did you pay for them to refinish the barrel after the work? If your work order states "attach customer supplied muzzle brake" that's what they did.

    1911 feed problem

Maybe the slides surface on the disco track and the transition from the track to the breech face should be looked at.

    1911 feed problem

Logman, would you suspect slow slide speed as being the cause of the case getting in front of the extractor?

    1911 feed problem

Great. That explains only one of the listed problems with photos that are being discussed here. Tight extractors, insufficient extractor hook to breech clearance and a poor extractor profile coupled with tight chambers and a very rough slide finish are the cause of the rest of the issues Sig...

    1911 feed problem

It doesn't bother me if he doesn't answer. I won't loose sleep over a comment by a rude but helpful person.:) The helpful trumps the rude.

Is there a niche of gunsmithing where a guy could still make a great living?

Don't get into gunsmithing if you expect to do get rich. It all depends on what your idea of a decent living is. Can you make 60K or more a year? Sure. Start up costs are gonna hurt you at first. Buying tools and machines are gonna kill your profit. You have to think about how many jobs is it...

    grip safety problems

Amen BBBBill. EGW and Wilson are paying attention to the needs of the consumer where it seems that Ed Brown is just putting out the same ol parts they have been with the exception of a couple barstock parts.

    1911 feed problem

Logman, to whom are you speaking to? I see 3 types of malfunctions in the pics and only one pic shows the malfunction you describe.

    1911 feed problem

Forget bad magazines or what lube are you using questions. The round is getting choked by the extractor. There isn't nearly enough space for the round to go inbetween the extractor and breechface and feed reliably. A .45 case needs around .075 extractor to breechface gap to be a very reliable...

    grip safety problems

Heads up for next time. Ed Brown cast parts are pretty bad. I've never used a Brown grip safety that I have liked. The parts come in warped and need to be heated and bent back into shape. Also, the beavertail section has a flaw built into the casting. The shape of the sides of the beavertail are...
