Mini 30 Magazines - Which ones?

Back in the day, I heard a rumor Bill Ruger had threatened to sue aftermarket magazine companies so the better manufacturers stayed away but honestly never believed it. Still given his propensities about civilian ownership of higher-cap mini magazines it had a ring of truth to it. I suspect it...

Varmint Hunting Scope for Night Use Suggestions

There is a very good deal available right now on the wraith mini at PSA. I'm sure it won't last long at this price...

Im looking to do a pig hunt this spring

I have a feeling this happens more often than many would know. I do all my own processing after a couple of bad experiences years ago.

    Reasonable cost 7.62x39 Upper

I had a similar experience with my first BCA enhanced firing pin. They sent me a warranty replacement, but I just put in one from RedX and no worries. Bolts have been fine for about 700 rounds combined so far, all steel cased ammo.

    Reasonable cost 7.62x39 Upper

I've got 2 BCA 7.62x39 uppers for hog hunting. They work perfectly with any standard AR-15 lower, and honestly are much more accurate than I would have expected from them. Just get C-product duramags and you will be golden. The ASC mags I bought originally are finicky. The duramags have been 100%

What's your favorite powder for 30-06?

Need a bit more information. What weight bullets are you looking to load & for what purpose? A 150 fmj load for Garand or Springfield is very different recipe than a 208 eld in a 26" barrel.

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

Suppose a good question is the size of these places. If you had a few hundred acres while the people happy with pigs are leasing a dozen sections that will never happen.

Packing for a Pig Hunt: How many guns??

Not sure if there actually is a question here. Hunting is fun, and taking lots of gear to try out is fun too. Beyond that, are you asking how many guns are needed for an out of state hunt, or are you asking if the items listed are reasonable for such a trip? As for the first question, that's...

    New Ruger Mini-14 Tactical

Considering Ruger likely used the newer series barrels seen on their other models rather than the old pencil style, the gun is probably a 2-ish MOA shooter with ammo it likes. Last I checked this is more than acceptable for the intended consumer audience. I do want to see how it looks and...

    Does Anyone Fire Lap Barrels?

No fire lapping for new guns. Maybe it helps with fouling, but honestly the accuracy improvements which was the original marketing push is likely non existent. Most modern button rifled barrels look terrible with a bore scope (*cough-cough* Savage) but shoot tiny groups regardless. Still, it...

Respect (or lack there of) for older Gun Writers

You bring up a pretty good point about the difference between the gun writers who were writing about hunting versus the self defense/tactical writers of yesteryears. The older hunting writing tended to be grand adventures whereas much today seems to be technical manuals by comparison. Much of...

want to know how to make homemade scope bubble level

Shooting with a level is about repeated, consistent hold of the rifle. This is different than levels used while installing sights and checking cross hairs. It's not something that is going to be removed and replaced on a regular basis so concerns about whether the level itself is perfectly...

    Used AR Prices?

The vanilla carry handle carbine isn't the standard AR anymore so selection of factory guns with that setup aren't quiet as common. $500 gets a new PSA. https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-pa-15-16-nitride-m4-carbine-5-56-nato-classic-ar-15-rifle-black.html Plenty of new complete flattop...

    The sks rifle. your thoughts

It was cheap and plentiful and extremely corrosive. It has a very distinctive nasty smell which makes you question exactly what was used to source nitrites in their powder production. The steel core is soft -- it is definitely not any kind of AP. If you fire some of it today and it seems to be...

Are 12 ga shells, 2 1/2” long, available?

https://ammoseek.com/ammo/12-gauge?sl=2%201%2F2&sh=high https://ammoseek.com/ammo/12-gauge?sh=high&sl=1%203%2F4 This should get you started. I see the mini shells (1-3/4) at local stores fairly often. It may just be a current fad for getting extra shells into pump guns but it does give a nice...

Are 12 ga shells, 2 1/2” long, available?

If you have a challenge finding the 2-1/2 there are plenty of shorter mini-shells these days which could work fine in a double. ** Plenty of 2-1/2 on ammoseek, but it is a bit costly

Honestly PSA is about as inexpensive you are going to find for a no frills milspec lower. They do occasionally run sales but that price is close to the bottom.

    I Hate Rifle "Combos"!

More than likely given a choice the average customer likely wants the combo over a bare rifle. I would hazard the vast majority of people looking for a basic model rifle are buying it at a big box retailer or somewhere that doesn't have a professional to install and sight in optics for them and...

Removing stuck muzzle device - Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle

Twisting torqued threaded items is usually not the best idea. Shock and impact work substantially better. Place the barrel in a padded vise (leather belt wrapped around barrel held in the jaws is okay), use a good fitting wrench on the muzzle device and hit the wrench with a hammer to turn it...
