Trappers, how do you keep from trapping people?

I have an acquaintance who is a regular trapper, mostly for small fur-bearing and predators. If asked about how much his traps hurt the animal, he will gladly close one on his hand to demonstrate. A sting, but no serious damage. Anyone wearing shoes wouldn't be hurt much, if at all. And if...

    S&W Sigma Pistols

I bought a 9VE for a night watchman job that required a 9mm. Being a revolver guy, I didn't own a nine, or any semi-autos. I didn't want to spend too much money, so I picked up a Sigma. It was the second generation, with the light rail and "improvements" I had hangups with one type of...

    Alternatives to the NAA mini-revolver

My brother carries an NAA .22 everywhere. He says he picked it because he can hide it in a pocket no matter what he's wearing. He knows of comparable guns in similar sizes, but he refuses to own anything but single action revolvers. He practices with it at a range of about five feet, point...

    CCWing a Desert Eagle?!

A vertical shoulder holster would be about the only way. I used to work with a fellow who carried a 6" Smith & Wesson Model 29 under his jacket in a shoulder rig, with four speedloaders on the opposite side 'for balance'. I imagine a pair of DE .50 magazines would weigh about the same...

    SMITH AND WESSON 642 LADYSMITH

The exact same grips can be purchased from smith & wesson for about $50, and your local gunsmith can perform the trigger/action job for a reasonable fee. You could buy a standard 642 and have these adjustments done without having "ladysmith" on the side, and possibly for less money. Shop...

Replaced all my autos with revolvers

For the first few years I was into guns, I never thought I'd own a semi-auto. After a while I tried one and liked it, but never as much as revolvers. I've owned a few semis and a lot of revolvers, but as of today I have five revolvers and only two semi-autos left, one of which is up for sale...

    Is this a real tradition?

I've noticed particular hunting traditions seem to depend on your circle of hunters. When I took my first buck, I got a smear of blood across the face, and the old Hopi in our group told me I had to "eat of his heart". Of course, he was just messing with me. The smear of blood was...

    single action

Here's one of mine, a Ruger Vaquero with a 4 5/8" barrel and case hardened frame, chambered in .45 Colt. The Ruger Single-Actions are styled after the Colt SAA but with some alterations including a modern transfer-bar system. The Vaqueros have fixed sights, and the Blackhawks have adjustable...

    Had a visitor today

You always see the best ones where you aren't allowed to shoot. Great picture, though. That's one beautiful cat.

are those water filters really safe?

Shiner Bock's good stuff. I was raised on Budweiser, and though I like lots of other beers, whenever I'm camping, hunting, or fishing with Dear Old Dad, Bud Light is the standard fare. It aint so bad once you get past the first two ;) and once the fire dies down you don't care too much...

are those water filters really safe?

As much as I love beer, here in the desert if you have too much of it without enough water, bad things can happen. And Bud Light is still better than Lonestar :barf:

    Belt holster recommendations for SP101?

I currently carry mine in a Galco Speed Master. They make quality holsters and are based in my beloved home state. The FLETCH is also a great holster (also Galco). They're both pancake style holsters, but the FLETCH has a thumb-break, while the Speed Master is molded for retention without a...

are those water filters really safe?

Those potable aqua tablets work pretty good, and I usually bring a couple coffee filters to strain the gunk out. Fitting it over the canteen mouth with a rubber band before dunking it in a stream or pond works well.

What is your "best ever" shot?

I once popped a dove early in the morning. He started to spin and roll, and then curved around for a landing about two feet away from where I stood. That's when you look at your hunting buddies and say "See? That's how you do it!" As luck would have it, the rest of the day they followed the...

    45 colt

Yep, it fills all those roles. My 4 5/8" Old Vaq is my bump in the night gun, my favorite target gun, my woods gun, and my barbecue gun, all rolled into one. I just really need to start handloading .45 Colt.

CHARTER ARMS BULLDOG .44 SPECIAL (MODIFICATION)

The DAO hammer will not have the cocking notch that the standard hammer will have, so it will be rendered double-action only. It will be a true DAO, not a bubba. And then if you decide at some point you want the original hammer back, you still have it.

CHARTER ARMS BULLDOG .44 SPECIAL (MODIFICATION)

Charter sells a DAO spurless hammer on their website for $25. That way you can keep your original hammer and save on gunsmithing fees.

    Grip style advice..

Only you will be able to know what the right grips feel like, but I have bigger than normal hands, and I actually my SAA grips to be wider than the standard. So you need to ask yourself, "are my current grips too big?"

Any benefits of a SA over DA revolver?

While I like both, there is just something about shooting a single action .45. My old model Vaquero was slicked up by it's previous owner for cowboy action, so it's got a nice light trigger pull. It's a very comfortable design to shoot, even with hot .45 loads there is very little muzzle...
