    Sooty cases

I have noticed that the cases fired in my Winchester '94 AE are very dirty, more so than in the past. I have cleaned the rifle but it still happens. I have used the same cases to reload for a few years, so I was wondering if they have gone 'hard' and not sealing the chamber as well as they...

    Cleaning a Winchester model 94ae

Apologies if this has already been flogged to death elsewhere, but after some fruitless searching, I decided a new post was the way forward. I have a very nice '94 AE, 20" barrel and colour case hardened reciever that I need to clean. Question is, what is the best way? Should I completely strip it?

    Colt Paterson

The BBC programme The Antiques Roadshow had an interesting gun yesterday. They don't come up on the show very often and usually they are old muskets or small 'muff' pistols, but this one very nearly made me burn the work shirt I was ironing when I saw it... If I find out anymore I'll add to...

    Safety procedures

I have started working with local Army cadets and have been learning the normal safety procedures (NSPs) as taught to all soldiers and cadets in the use of the L98 GP Cadet Rifle (very much like the army issue SA80 but semi-automatic only). I was wondering, what safety procedures do you go...

    Firearms cultural differences

I have been a reader of many of the threads on this excellent forum for some time now and have been struck (and have commented on some threads) by the cultural and historical differences with regards to the ownership of firearms in the USA compared with the UK. I was wondering, what is it...

    Bullet weights for .45 Colt

I have always used and had good result with the .454, 250 grain, RNFP cast lead bullet heads for my Winchester '94AE (20inch barrel). The company I have been buying them from also stocks heads in .454 at 200 grain and 160 grain. What results have you guys had in a similar rifle if any? Help /...

    Accurate Range

I'm pleased with the result from finishing the stock on this Ardessa .45 rifle; what do you guys think the accurate range should be? I can shoot one hole groups at 25 yards on my local range ( it's all there is).

Peep sight for a Kentucky rifle

I have an old but accurate Ardessa Kentucky rifle in .45 that I would like to put a peep sight on as my eyes are not what they used to be and the existing sights are getting harder to use accurately. Most 'flip up' peep sights are tang mounted I believe but I'm not sure this is the best place...

    Dragoon vs Walker

I have a very beloved (but to be honest a bit shabby) Walker pistol and have now seen a Dragoon at a good price I am interested in. However, my question is this, what is the difference between the two? The loading lever latch is obviously improved but what else is different? Are they a similar...

    Franchi pump action

I've recently bought a very nice Franchi wooden stocked pump action shotgun with 3 inch chromed chambers. It's a good gun but I can't find out anything about it. It's not a semi / pump combo, it's a few yards old I think but can't find out his to date it. Any ideas?

    No spark

My apologies if this has been discussed on here but I couldn't find it ... Anyhow, I have a very nice 50 calibre flintlock Hawken rifle, (Thompson Centre) which I love, but the spark is very unreliable. If it does spark its ofetn too small to set off a charge. I have tried different flints to...
