I use my resizing die on my press and push the primers out real slowly using steady pressure.
As far as deactivating the primers, nothing seems to work. Everything I've read says it can't be done reliably.
Here's Sierra's response:
My book says the same thing yours does, 15.5 to 17.9 grains of AA#9 with a 125 grain JHC in a 357 Magnum Revolver.
Ours is not a closed pressure gun but a Colt Revolver with a cylinder gap which does have a bearing on the pressure levels.
So, what I think he is saying...
Hi all,
I'm using a new combination of powder and bullets for my .357 Magnum. I want some load recommendations for the combination of Sierra 125 gr JSP and Accurate Arms #9 powder. My Sierra manual shows a range of 15.5 gr to 17.9 gr for AA#9 and 125 gr bullets. However, when I look at the...
I think I'm going with the Patmarlins system. Seems rock solid.
One thought though. My reloading bench is pretty small. Only about 3' wide. I'm thinking it makes sense to mount this towards the right side of the bench rather than centered since everything is placed and removed from the left...
Inline Fabrication system looks interesting. Thanks for the info. However, I'm not sure how the extra height would work out. Is it a help? When resizing, I need to put some real force into the press and at that height, it might make it harder. It would raise it up to eye level which is a plus...
I finally have a dedicated workbench for reloading and I've been looking at various ways to swap out presses and powder measures. I came across Patmarlins ROCKDock system.
What's the thoughts on this? Is it quality? Is it easy and quick to change presses? Is it solid?
I was able to safely pull the bullets using the RCBS Collet Bullet Puller. Some were in very tight. I can't imagine doing this with the impact hammer. I figure for the cost of the puller, I could mostly recoup the cost by reusing the brass, primers, and bullets.
The bullets look to be in very...
I was able to zero-in the new scope this weekend and gave this rifle a decent try. I was able to get about 3"-4" groups with the Federal ammo at 100 yards. Not too bad. Better than I expected. I suspect I could do better if I took my time. But, by the time I zeroed the scope, the barrel was...
See. Now, I really opened up a can of worms. I'm confused even more now than before. I see posts here about the great quality of a Henry and the poor quality of a Henry. Same for how smooth the action is.:confused::confused:
I guess it's the same with other products. Some love them...
I agree that I don't normally use other people's reloads, but these were supposedly "professionally" done. Lesson learned.
I solved some of the mystery. I measured the COL and they were between 1.615" and 1.617" which is over the maximum spec of 1.590". So, that explains why they were so hard...
I'm intrigued by this mystery. I measured the diameters of the suspect rounds along with factory ammo and my reloads. They were all about the same between 0.375" and 0.377". I'm still not sure why these rounds don't easily load and unload from the revolver.
Someone mentioned crimps. How do I...
I shot 100 of my .357 Magnum reloads immediately after this and they all were fine. My cartridges almost fall in and out. I really don't shoot .38 Special in this revolver, so I don't think that's an issue.
I got a box of commercially reloaded .357 Magnum from a relative who bought it in Vermont (I think). Anyway, I tried it in my S&W 686 revolver and I had a hard time getting the cartridges all the way in. I had to push pretty hard to get them in all the way especially the last 1/8" or so. After...
See. Now I'm really confused.
I've never bought a used gun except for my M1 Garand from the CMP and don't know what to look for.
So, what's the order of desirability;
Winchester
Marlin
Rossi
