    T/C Hawken,wedge question

I inherited this Hawken , it's a good 40 years old. When I install the barrel wedge it goes in until flush, which makes me think it's not 'wedging' the barrel any. I've never thought the gun shot as accurate as it should and thinking this could be why ?? Do they sell 'fat wedges' ,or am I wrong...

lighter hammer spring for lighter trigger, 1911 ?

Just took my Norinco 1911 apart for the 1st time, and got to thinking, .I know,I know... anyway ,the slide is hard to manipulate and the trigger is HEAVY,and both can be attributed to a heavy hammer spring,I think. I see that Brownell's sells reduced power hammer springs, and other sites say...

well, son of a gun. for a couple of years i've had way too many 'dud primer's' with a couple of my handguns. always tried to blame the primers,and/ or myself. well...it turns out that the Lee Ram Prime that I've been using....no idea where I got it..had the wrong spring in it,and instead of...

I"m a convert ! (pistol primer pocket cleaning)

Out of boredom because of a monsoon here at the coast, I deprimed a hundred .45colt brass, and started cleaning the pockets with a cordless drill....carefully. I was AMAZED at how much crud can build up over time ! I think most of the 'blame' is the low-powered 'cowboy level' load I shoot. Ran...

    tried a new-to-me powder in .45acp..Power Pistol

Had this powder on hand for a while, don't recall what I used it for last, but thought i'd try it with a cast,200 grain bullet in the ol' 1911 Norinco. Started with a dozen rounds each of 6,and then 6.5 grains of powder, and ran to the range for a quick test. the heavier load shot one...

Lyman 55 measue..making it work right

My buddy's Lyman 55 was farily accurate, but we'd read where they were supposed to be more accurate than our experince was showing. Using most any kind of powder,we were +- up to 1/2 grain...not really 'accurate. We used the 'flipper' after dumping the powder, but then started to give the handle...

Powders DO vary from batch to batch !

During a reloading session the other day,I emptied my buddys' W748 out of the hopper to put mine in for my shells, and just out of curiosity and for safety,re-checked the dump. WOW,almost 3 grains difference between the 2 jugs of powder. Now,they were several years apart in age,and who knows...
