Though I know this takes the thread further from the OP's question, it does line up with the more recent responses: There is an excellent 7-book series by A. American (pen name) known as the "Going Home" series that touches on the sentiments of many who have responded here. The series doesn't...
If just one, I suppose my Henry lever in .357 with a few hundred rounds. Works in most scenarios minus an over-run situation. Pure survival, it'd be my go-to.
I have found a few good uses:
1. Knowing muzzle velocity allows me, through more physics calculations, to figure kinetic energy (use of KE on terminal performance is disputed) as the bullet velocity decreases with distance, ultimately finding a point where the round may no longer be considered...
Out of curiosity, what are the IL laws for transport to and from the range, between homes/shops, etc.? This conversation makes me assume that IL doesn't have a castle doctrine as well. Hard for me to understand as most of my recent years have been in Texas, Nebraska, Arizona, and Nevada, all...
I have a Windham Weaponry WW-15 in 7.62x39 and four 30-rd steel mags that have yet to have a feed issue, even with steal Wolf Polyformance ammo. Love the rifle and may be worth a look for you to check out Windham.
I shoot a .327 Federal Mag in a 4.2" barreled SP101. The current load I work with needs adjusting...
With a minimum load of 800X and 100 gr JHPs, this pistol is an absolute fire breather! It burns inconsistent and inefficient. The question is, would I benefit from changing to a faster...
I carry my 4" SP101 in .327 Fed Mag most of the time, but not because I am pragmatic, more that I do not have any smaller options and I like the effectiveness of the round and the weight of the weapon. Besides, I get funny looks if I have an N-frame S&W on my hip. :scrutiny:
I have seen the .22LR used by the shooting teams for competitions, but those were not combat weapons and I have not seen a .22LR used for anything other than that. They are fun to watch though!
Since being stationed in Texas, a 4"-barreled SP101 in .327 Federal Mag is my carry of choice in the woods. It's loaded with hot JHP rounds that have dispatched more than a few startled-now-angry hogs down here and dropped one unsuspecting coyote. I'd assume it'd be plenty effective on...
Imagine the intense vibration from the internal ballistics of firing the weapon, even if only for 1/1000 of a second. At worst, the optics could have been knocked off if the firearms fell over or if you already had a pre-existing issue with something such as the ocular lens.
The military is NOT using .22 LR for training vice .223/5.56. I am still active duty and have never fired a .22 LR with a military issued weapon.
(added) ...that I have ever heard of. Basic trainees and deployers alike are trained with the .223 and 9mm in the USAF.
I own two Henry rifles, the .22LR Golden Boy and the .357 Big Boy. I reload for the .357 and that has increased accuracy significantly and both shoot great and have been my go-to rifles for brush hunting hogs/deer (.357) and rabbits/squirrels (.22LR). I have fit both with Marble Bullseye...
