    Subsonic 30-06

I worked up a subsonic 30-06 load. Using 2.8 grains of Trail Boss, drilled flash holes. I used 115 grain cast bullet that I bought at Midway USA. Velocity was 500 fps and was very quiet without a suppressor.

    770 or american

Buy the Ruger American. I definitely like Remington but the 770 was not that good of a gun.

Would you CCW while praying in front of an abortion clinic?

I personally would not carry. I would not carry anything that could ruin my testimony. I may carry pepper spray, as public perception of pepper spray is generally not negative.

KONUS rifle scopes. Anyone have one ???

I own one on my muzzleloader. It is a Konus Pro 3-9x40. It has the engraved reticle. It is mounted on a Traditions Buckstalker. I killed two deer and fired twenty shots. It has worked well but I have only had it for one year. It is a very good scope for the money, I will say my Redfield...

I refuse to own a magnum rifle round that has a belt...

I do not like belted cases either. My brother has one and when he is trying to (very quietly) load another round in while hunting, the bolt has slight resistance when it hits the belt, so he closes the bolt and pulls the trigger and all he hears is a click. I know this is the shooters problem...

Anybody else end deer season empty handed?

This was my best year. I got five deer, two with a muzzleloader and three with my 30-06. I started stalking the deer in the corn. I only went stalking three times but I came home with a deer every time.

    Premo 223 & black bear

If you handload. And you load a 62 grain TTSX bullet going about 3200 fps according to Barnes. With that setup a 223 has a bigger wound channel than a 30-30. Look it up on YouTube. Look on Barnes website and check the ballistics gelatin tests. Federal tested some bullets to see how they...

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

I agree, Black powder is dirty and I have stopped using it because of that. I did clean my gun very well after.

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

That makes sense. I do not have a chronograph, but I will be getting one very soon. I think I will hold off on developing reduced loads until I get one.

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

Thanks for the input guys. I have not shot any more loads with triple seven. I do find it hard to believe that 7 grains of powder would even have enough energy to blow up a rem 700. I know some engineers did the math and found that a 2.8 grain load of some smokeless pistol powder was not...

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

I am trying to find some trail boss online. I just cannot find any place that has any in stock.

What could happen is there is an air gap?

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

I did a little experimenting. I had some hornady brass and i drilled the flash holes to 9/64". I started with a load of 21 grains by weight which is equal to about 30 grains of black powder. Then I kept working down. I have loaded all the way down to 7 grains and that will not push a 150...

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

I am going to experiment a little with black powder (Triple Seven).

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

Thanks guys, I will have to try and get some trail boss.

Black Powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

I am trying to get my 30-06 to shoot sub-sonic. But I want to do it safely. I know smokeless powder can cause dangerous pressure spikes. Black powder is better in that it takes up much more room in the case and is less powerful. Is this a really bad idea or will it work but just burn dirtier.

    .30-06 Question

Copper bullets retain almost 100% of there weight. I have a 30-06 and hunt with 110 grain ttsx bullets. There speed is 3500-3600 fps according to barnes data. So they shoot flatter than any other weight until about 400 yards.

    Illuminated reticle

I would have to say an illuminated reticle could be useful depending on the scope. On my Tasco, I would like a illuminated reticle. My Redfield Revolution has a reticle that turns gold colored when the light gets low, so I really don't need or want an illuminated reticle on that.
