    How do I proof test?

I have shot pounds of lead through unmarked kit guns I built. Proof it with WEAK loads, and work your way up. If the gun doesn't like it, it will tell you.

Source of real Black Powder in Iowa

There are often sales, but $25 hazmat per shipment is typical. So the more you get per shipment, the lower the per pound cost. Yes, they will ship to your front door (depending on local laws). And yes, once I hit 2 to 3 lbs, I am competitive with any LGS I can take the time and gas to drive to...

Source of real Black Powder in Iowa

WMG, I live Durham, NC. My local sources dried up to the point where I found I was driving extra miles and paying a fortune for a pound of mediocre Holy Black. I ordered 2lbs of powder online from Graf Bros, one lb. Goex for general use and 1 lb Premium Old Eynesford for serious accuracy work...

Hello, first thread and issue with Uberti Walker

Be aware that I had a similar issue with my Uberti Walker when new (2 years ago). The barrel was extremely difficult to remove and reinstall. My conclusion (after measuring) was that the arbor was slightly tapered--instead of bottoming out in the arbor channel, the taper stopped the barrel from...

BP Additives to produce colored flash

I make my own fireworks. There are plenty of fun things you can add to make BP more fun, say for July 4th...but BLANKS. I would never mix anything with BP that involved a projectile. For starters, look at the construction of a "flying fish fuse mine"...safe to launch from a cardboard tube, and...

    Walker re-assembly issue

I had the same issue with my new Uncle Berti Walker last year...could not reset the barrel on the arbor, even with no wedge or cylinder involved--it hung up with the cyl pins just barely entering their mating holes, like yours. It appeared to me that Uberti was trying to deal with the short...

    4v50 - Thanks!

For me, the "Sharpshooter tales" thread is one of the greatest things on THR. If you haven't read it, search and be prepared to be fascinated for a week. Thank you Gary.

A Recent ASM 1860 Army Acquisition

Expat, I have a circa 1982 ASM 1860 at Mike B.'s getting Goonerized right now...I can tell you that this particular vintage ASM is rock solid, I've put pounds of lead through it (or I wouldn't pay for Goonerization). As far as the the cyl goes, though, it does seem Uberti is closer...but I...

    The THR 1851/1860 Club

Here's my Uberti 1862 Detective Special (oops, Police Police) along with its ASM big brother. Love the PP, one my favorites, but man, I've got to redo those shiny orange grips so they look more like the ASM's oil-rubbed wood. BTW, the ASM 1860 is with Mike B. getting Goonerized. Can't wait!

    New Uberti Walker

Yes, Arcticap...and I'm not disagreeing with anyone about chamber-to-groove-diameter "perfection". I've got an 1860 ASM (yes, the much maligned Armi San Marco, circa 1982) at Mike's patiently waiting to be Goonerized, because it's all-around the best cap'n'ball revolver I've ever shot. When it...

    Maybe next year

Good luck, Darkcloud. Stay tough. A lot of THR regulars are thinking about you. I don't hunt anymore, don't even have a rifle, but I might take the Walker out with Olde Eynsford and some of Slim's flat point huge lube groove .44 boolets and try to pop a NC whitetail for you! Keep us posted.

    New Uberti Walker

Dave, I think what Arcticap was saying was more along the lines of, "boring out out the cylinders makes the 'squeeze-down' of the ball entering the forcing cone more difficult...in other words, if the ball has to compress a lot to enter the barrel, it's got a LOT of of expanding gas right behind...

    1847 Uberti Walker on Gunbroker

About 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 water. Pulled the nipples, put it in a gallon ziploc, and swished around every few minutes. After about 20 minutes, I had a nice looking in-the-white Walker cylinder. I kept my Howell conversion blue, just for contrast...

Pietta 36 Cal 1851 "Yank" Navy - review.

Thanks, Drobs! Can't wait for pics! My C&B clan is all Uberti right now (with one ASM 1860, which is on an extended sleepover at Goons), but I have been looking hard at adding the Pietta Yank 1851 soon, just to see how Pietta's QC has improved...the catalog pics of the Yank sure look purty...

    Hand cannon, by CANNONMAN

Officer's Wife, you are a fount of wisdom, and much appreciated in this forum of testosterone-driven tomfoolery and geriatric shennanigans. Allow me to express my appreciation for your posts.

    1847 Uberti Walker on Gunbroker

Yeah Venom, the original 1100 Walkers had heat-treating on the iron cylinders that left them in the white...a half hour vinegar / water treatment puts a Uberti right. Here's mine:

    Pietta good years/bad years

Harm, thank you so much for the reference to the thread describing case hardening...I'm only halfway through the long 1920's article about the process and I already know more about CCH than I ever knew in my life. Why would companies fake CCH with acid salt baths? Because the proper method...

    The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

Interesting thought on the Walker "repeating smoothbore shotgun", Rodwha (not to get off-thread on the lovely ROA's)...Uberti Walker barrels are $150 from Taylors, so you wouldn't have to dedicate a revolver...Just swap barrels. Might start a new thread on the practicality of boring...
