Cetme C barrel broke out of trunnion after 150 rounds!

The barrel is never welded into the trunnion on any Cetme/HK build. Barrels are pressed and pinned then the trunnion is welded into the receiver. In a dozen years of building these guns I've only ever seen one home gunsmith welded a barrel to a trunnion.

Cetme C barrel broke out of trunnion after 150 rounds!

It appears the barrel journal was destroyed by being pressed through the trunnion too many times and the builder tried to salvage it by knurling the OD before pressing it. This is an acceptable fix if done correctly, but it wasn't. They didn't turn the barrel back down to the correct size...

Is the gas system the reason for bad accuracy?

Gas systems always give dodgy results. Barrel whip on a PSL goes away with the gas port blocked.

HK/PTR-91 bolt reassembly the German military method. Best I've seen.

Harsh recoil is nearly always related to a worn bolt locking lever, a weak locking lever spring, or wear on the bolt head where the locking lever rides. When I do my locking piece tests at the range I sometimes have to change the LPs 5 times in a range session to get the high speed recordings...

    Old school rifles

I found most of a 1907 .351 Winchester a few years ago and found/made most of the parts to get it back to shooting condition. I opted to parkerize. I'm now reminded that I never did get a rear sight. As found: After:

HK/ PTR-91 head space, when new. Just picked up yesterday.

There is a fellow in Las Vegas with a FA Cetme who hasn't cleaned the rifle in over 5k rounds. It was interesting to look into the chamber ta say the least.

HK/ PTR-91 head space, when new. Just picked up yesterday.

These blowback guns are very dirty and it's a whole lot easier for me to flush (dirty) light oil out of the bolt head after a range day. I have been known to smear lubriplate on the side grooves of the carrier though. Everybody has their favorite lubes though, I don't think there is any one...

HK/ PTR-91 head space, when new. Just picked up yesterday.

The spec for the bolt gap is .004" to .020". If you're sitting at .018" make a note of it then check it again after 200 rounds. Barrel movement of around .002" is considered acceptable on a brand new rifle. A caveat to this is that you (we) are assuming that the rifle arrived with "zero"...

    My roller-delayed blowback puzzle....

Possibly, but more than likely it is a safeguard to prevent damage in case of a weak or failed bolt locking lever spring. One thing I'm sure of is that if your carrier hits the buffer your rifle has problems.

    My roller-delayed blowback puzzle....

I did a study on the rearward movement of the carrier using a gun with barrel length of 10.5 and standard full length barrel and found that the carrier doesn't come within .3" of touching the buffer. The only way I got it to come close was to run a suppressor with the standard locking piece in...

    My roller-delayed blowback puzzle....

The HK91/Cetme platform is very robust and reliable. Being a blowback weapon they are always dirty but will always function. The most common part to fail is the extractor spring, which lets the case fall out of the bolt before ejection. Most extractor springs fail due to improper disassembly...

    My roller-delayed blowback puzzle....

Upon firing the gas pressure immediately expands back through the chamber flutes to counteract the internal case pressure. ( so the case doesn't stick in the chamber). The gas pressure pushes the case rearward against the bolt face. As the bolt is pushed rearward the already extended rollers...

    CETME builders?

I've built a lot of cetmes, a couple FALs, PSLs, etc. Cetmes are simple once you've tooled up, same as any other platform. US made parts for 922r can mostly be taken from FCG parts from HK suppliers. There are some "average" barrels available from Apex and Sarco occasionally. I like mine to...

    My mosin project

Prior to this rifle I built a 98 Mauser action in 7.62x54r to test 54r ammo. The Mauser shot very very well and some were claiming it was because of the Mauser action. In order to prove them wrong I wanted to build a rifle with a M-N action using the same barrel blank configuration as the...

Anybody ever try to incorporate springs into a stock/recoil pad?

The Romanian PSL 7.62x54r has them. The metal buttplate has a fixed post that extends into the cutout in the stock and sits on two coil springs. The sling swivel inside the cutout holds it all together. When I designed the aluminum chassis for my 7.62x54r Mauser I incorporated a small...

    C308: First Impressions

Headspace is set when the barrel is chambered. The chamber depth is determined by the amount of case sticking out beyond the barrel face. The amount is equal to the depth of the bolt head recess plus .009". This distance keeps the bolt face from hitting the barrel face when there is a...

    C308: First Impressions

There is no such thing as re-headspacing a Cetme but you are correct on needing a different locking piece. If you screw a suppressor on the end of your Cetme and shoot it with the original 50 degree locking piece in place the recoil will be fierce and the rollers in the bolt head will likely...
