Yea, that would be the best option. Thanks everyone for some talking sense into my big block idea.
More than likely I will go with the 30-06 ADL and build from there. The 30-06 will let me have the option of going heavy when I want to and looking at the Hodgedon reloading data the load...
I do think I will avoid the 300 Win Mag though. 2 things are unavoidable...Harsh recoil that will create bad habits and it will eat up a lot of powder that isn't cheap right now.
Because then I will spend $890 to have a paper weight. Where as I could buy a new Remington 700 ADL for $4xx and enjoy shooting it while I gather other parts.
Got any pics of the action? I've never really looked into how people identify "correct" clone 700 receivers. I guess I like more inspired rather than clones.
To make a clone of a M24. I won't have the clone scope, I won't have the clone (I will but it will be threaded) barrel, but I want it as close as possible while still not being a $4,226 rifle. "Close enough" will do but having it a short action...Why not a short action and a 6.5...If going short...
That's a terrible argument here for me.
The 32v in my username is for a 32 valve Supercharged Mustang Cobra. I didn't want to daily it so I bought a 1995 Mustang 5.0 and ended up putting a single turbo on it. I daily drove that for years until my wife and I started to pop out kids at an...
I'm about 50/50 on going back to 30-06 over the 300 Win Mag. The only thing that is pushing me back to 30-06 is I know I can load down the 300 Win Mag, but I believe most rifles don't shoot at a reduced load so it might defeat the purpose of owning it.
30-06 I should be able to sling heavy...
I really appreciate your opinion and I'm sure your knowledge on the matter is much greater than mine. But call it stubbornness or ignorance I do believe I will go with what I want rather than spending more money going down a road I don't have interest in.
Call me crazy but I believe I'll go...
Hate to tell you but the new Remingtons are getting great reviews and even come with a Timney trigger from the factory.
I have 0 interest in going 6.5 Creedmoor but if you think a different 30cal would be better than a 300 Win Mag (While also using a LA) then I am all ears. Also I doubt we will...
Tell me if this is dumb or not. While I don't care too much for cloning I've always appreciated military rifles. Now while I know a new Remington 700 in any configuration you can buy new isn't a M24, I think getting it close while being a military cartridge is a necessity. Kinda like building a...
