Here Comes The Flood Of New Gun Legislation

There's something to be said to living in Arkansas, were we do not have a full time legislature. They only meet every other year for a 2-3 month session. The Governor can always call a special session for fiscal emergencies, and there is a "legislative council" that is active while the...

    Dr office search and seizure?

My daughter in law is a pediatrician, and very pro 2nd amendment. She doesn't ask about guns, per se. She does ask children if they feel safe at home, and if she has reasons to be concerned, she'll probe further. But seeing as she and my son keep guns close at hand for self-defense, she'd...

    Cross Eye Dominance

Sam, I do this. But not with just any rifle, because as you surmise, it is not always easy to get the left eye behind the rear sight. But there are "work arounds." With lever actions, they have enough of a drop with the comb that with a scope mounted high enough, it is easy to do...

Planning for Retirement, bought all the 22lr

I retired three years ago today. That being 2010, back in 2006 (after Katrina) I started stocking up for retirement, both commercially loaded ammo, and reloading components. In those days, brass was still available on Ebay, and I literally got enough .223, .38/.357 and 9mm brass to last a...

    Scoping a Garand??

Hummer70, I want to thank you for a most informative post. However, I think it will be lost here since it was not really on point (about scoping a Garand).

    Scoping a Garand??

It is not difficult to scope a Garand, and only somewhat expensive, if you were content with a "Scout" type of mount, i.e. forward of the receiver. It would look like this: Details here. While not all are fans of the concept, and some especially do not like to see it on the Garand, the...

    DHS Searches

Okay, I just utilized my best google-fu to see what I could turn up, and the only thing I could find where a warrant included "gun cleaning equipment" wasn't a DHS search, but the Witaschek case that is in the news right now, and being discussed on THR here). In that case, the existence of "gun...

Another Rescue Story from the Westgate Mall

A previous thread, about the SAS operative who helped rescue folks in the Westgate Mall attack, was shut down, in part because firearms seem to have little to do with his heroics. Well, here's a different story of rescue efforts where having a gun appears to have emboldened the person who...

    Arrested for reporting a MWAG....

We have no open carry in my state. One day, I stopped by Walmart to pick up some pool chemicals. There was an armored car parked out front, with two of the personnel standing my the vehicle chatting as I walked my them, into the store. I passed a couple of more people and made my way to the...

Is trying to make your gun "look cool" okay?

^^^What they said. Some of my modifications are decidedly "uncool" -- at least to some -- like the "Scout Scope" on my Garand. When I posted a pic here, somebody demurred. But I'm vision challenged, and I bought my Garand to shoot, not look at, so the scoped stayed. So I generally ignore...

    eds red

I keep two versions handy, one with, and one without, the acetone. I view the version without more as a lubricant than a cleaner. Acetone should be safe on blued, parkerized and stainless steel. But as a solvent, it would remove paint, and shouldn't be used on wood.

How do compare 2008 ammo panic to this one?

No one who was an active shooter in both 2008/9 and 2013 will tell you that 2008/9 was worse. There have been some differences, and different people will have had different experiences, but all things considered 2013 has been worse. I would say much worse. I don't remember the shelves at the...

Do you know how many firearms you own?

A poll might be interesting, as a way of consolidating various responses. The categories might be: 0 1-5 6-10 11-20 21-50 51-100 100+ Anybody up to creating it?

Petition to retract the 8/29/13 Executive Order banning re-import of surplus firearms

^+1 Registration ties the ownership of a specific firearm to someone. Signing a petition does not. As "captain awesome" said, just being here could be construed as a possible marker of gun ownership. Well, I already have an account (and don't remember what petition(s) I might have signed...

    New Executive Actions?

I haven't seen this question answered. The consensus seems to be that CMP is excluded. So what weapons are affected by this? Does anybody really know?

    I-40 to CALI Need Help!

I traveled from Arkansas to the Northwest last year, and then back through California on the way home, for a two day visit. I did the latter--locked gun and magazines (17 round) up separately in the trunk. When was this? I remember this as a kid, but that was 50 years ago. On my trip last...

Repurposing non gun stuff as gun stuff

I didn't think that the "Prius-uber-millennial" types were all that into raising families. I thought that was more the SUV crowd. My neighbors are more into Duck Dynasty, and only care about how many guns I have if I have more than they do. I try not to let them know, so they won't...

Repurposing non gun stuff as gun stuff

Large empty ice cream tubs with handles hold a variety of cleaning items and supplies. Large empty laundry detergent containers are used to sort out and store spent brass. I drink Folger's instant coffee, and the latest style of "jar" it comes in is plastic, with a flip top lid. I routinely...
