    Honest-to-gosh target trigger...

Does Timney, or Jewell, or somebody, make a really nice target trigger that fits the Ruger Precision Rifle? I'm spoiled--The "target trigger" that comes stock on the RPR seems draggy to me. Or mebbe there is an adjustment for that?

    Start of results...

Well, I promised results. Finally got the RPR, in 6.5 Creedmoor, and now finally have begun shooting it. The attached is best group so far. /Users/admin/Desktop/group size .630".jpg

    Tight primers...

Eager to load for my new 6.5 Creedmoor. Got 100 Nosler cases. Have had good results for my "serious" rifles with CCI BR-2 primers, so that was what I used to prime them. The BR-2's I have used for years, with no problems; they have inserted normally into all my cases up 'til now. That's as...

    Scope?

WOO HOO! Just got word from my LGS that my Ruger Precision Rifle, 6.5 Creedmoor, I had on order, is IN!! (Happy dance!!) Can't pick it up immediately, so I thought I'd ask the collective wisdom for a recommendation as to a 'scope for the RPR. Hope for a 'scope that I can use for 100-yd-ish...

    Well, I bit...

Having read several articles on the new Hornady cartridge, 6.5 Creedmoor, and having read with interest several other articles praising the new Ruger Precision Rifle, and having wandered into a LGS that claimed to be able to get one for me, I went and ordered an RPR in 6.5 CM. Am waiting with...

    Hornady Auto Charge Powder Scale/Dispenser...

Currently, Midway is offering a sale price on the Hornady Auto Charge Powder Scale & Dispenser. I'm tempted. Any comments on this device? How accurate is it? I have a perfectly good accurate RCBS Uniflow hand-cranked dispenser, also a Lyman #55 (which is better than the RCBS for small charges)...

    Why no Varget for target?

Am researching a load for the .300 WSM. Want to use 168 grain target bullets, either Sierra or Nosler. Have researched several printed sources, plus the Hodgdon website. Was thinking of using Varget as the propellant. All agree that I could use Varget with a 165 grain bullet, but all also have...

    Where IS it???

I don't reload shotgun ammo much at all, like years between batches. (I'm mostly a rifle and pistol shooter.) But recently the urge came on me, and therefore I began assembling ingredients. Which brings me to the question: WHERE THE DEVIL IS ALL THE SHOTGUN POWDER????? No local source I've...

    Ithaca offered...Need advice...

Local antique dealer has an Ithaca Model 37R for sale. The M-37 is Ithaca's excellent pump shotgun, with bottom loading AND ejection--Making it a great shotgun for lefties. I'm somewhat interested. Cannot find any info at all on the 37R. (There is lots of info on 37's generally, of course.)...

    Newbie question...

Newbie question: I'm making a knife from OTS steel, de-tempered and flattened, by stock reduction using a common, electric-powered grinding wheel. The wheel's label says in clear English, "Do not grind on the side of the wheel." My question is, what's the harm in that? Especially since I want...

Help! Problem with lead for bullet casting...

Casting along, using wheel weights we smelted earlier today. Nice clean ingots put into RCBS casting furnace. Molten lead running well, casting good bullets, when suddenly the lead starts to run slowly, then drip, then almost stop. Furnace set at 725° F. Tried lower and higher settings to no...

    Wow! LOUD!!

Is it just me, or is it real? Seems that all of the AR-style rifles at the range I frequent, are REALLY LOUD by comparison with other rifles. I wonder why--most of 'em are shooting little .223 bullets; it doesn't take that much powder to move such a small projectile, and yet, even with my good...

    Help: 8mm accuracy load wanted...

Am considering entering a Vintage Military Rifle league next summer, using an 8mm Yugo Mauser M-48. There don't seem to be too many suggestions for an "accuracy load" in 8mm. Rifle must be "as issued," but you can fancy up the ammo any way that works. I've got plenty of brass, and LR primers...

    Cast bullet weight variation...

Cast up my first set of bullets recently. Everything went according to the printed descriptions; had no particular problems. The RCBS bottom-pour furnace did a fine job, as did the RCBS mould for 148 grain target bullets for .38/.357. The alloy I used was "found bullets on the range." (Mostly...

First Try At Smelting (And it Went Well!)

This is a report from a newbie bullet caster--actually, I haven't even gotten that far--YET! Got a screaming deal I couldn't pass up on an RCBS bottom-pour bullet casting furnace a while back. So of course I had to get all the other "stuff" that went with it, which I have been accumulating...

    Vostok confusion...

Recently purchased a Vostok .22 target rifle. I'm wondering what model it is. It came with 'scope bases attached as a modification; otherwise stock. Put a Weaver T-36 on it, and yesterday began exploring its accuracy from the bench. What a SCHWEEET trigger! And it IS accurate; I just haven't...

    Knife Sharpening machine GOT...

Guys, I appreciate all the helpful advice heaped on me so far. This is a progress report. Last Friday I went to my local Harbor Freight, and they had the Central Machinery 1x30 belt sander on sale for $34.99, so I bought it, figuring that if it's a total disaster that's not too much $$ to...

    Knife sharpening machine wanted...

Knife Knuts: I'm pretty good at sharpening knives by hand. Have a collection of the usual medium and hard Arkansas stones and an assortment of diamond hones in various grits. 2 different honing oils; a couple of strops. That's not the problem! The problem is, that I've become somewhat...

Lock 'n' Load show on "The Bullet"--OO-Rah!

Have had this one in the hopper for a while now; just got around to watching it this evening. Nice show for general info. I liked the statement right off the bat (holding up a cartridge): "This is NOT a bullet!" Then explaining the parts of a round of ammunition. What WAS shown was...

I won! New (used) rifle questions...

Lightning struck! I won a used Steyr sniper rifle, apparently an SSG-PII (it has the set trigger) in a raffle @ a local gun show. Picked it up last night (boy is it a heavy gun!) and now am trying to learn all I can about it. It's something of an odd beastie, at least by American standards...
