What new rifles are most exciting to you this year? Or over the past year?

"Superior to Gen 1?"... Well that's relative to the buyer I guess... For me, this is what I note: 1a) Threaded barrel with factory installed muzzle break. (Option for suppressor) 1b)Cerakote 2) Aesthetics (looks). Including fluted barrel which, whether it serves purpose or not, looks really...

What new rifles are most exciting to you this year? Or over the past year?

Ruger American Gen II for me. Though they don't offer any calibers I don't already have, or are excited about. I own 2 Americans already, a standard 7mm-08 and a Predator 6.5Cr. Both are shooters and I have no reason to believe Gen II will be any different. If they chambered it in 22-250 Rem...

Rifle optics: a blue collar spending perspective for cost / benefit

I know some say "if you spend "X" on the rifle, you should spend "XX" on the scope. For my applications which are hunting and dabbling in precision. My areas of focus are (1) holds a zero (2a) Will not fog (2b) Is clear at all magnifications I need. (3) Adjustments (clicks) are accurate. I pay...

    I Hate Rifle "Combos"!

As long as it holds zero, it's worth it to me. But ... I've bought plenty of rifle scope combos, but none with the intent of keeping the scope. I've seen combos that come with Vortex Crossfire scopes. Haven't bought one but I'd consider keeping the scope on one of those. Reminds me of a...

    Favorite 7mm?

I have... 7mm-08 Rem 280 rem 7 Rem Mag 28 Nosler If I had to choose one, my favorite would be 7 Rem Mag. I've owned 7 of them (2 currently). I know there's cartridges that out perform but I don't see a need for more.

    Favorite 6.5mm?

I have a 6.5 CM and a 264 Win Mag. Looking hard at the 6.5-300 Wby and the 26 Nosler. Looks like I'm the only that has chosen the 264 Win Mag so far. I chose it for personal reasons, not data based, but it's a laser that got a bad rap and is a hammer on whitetails So that means everybody else...

    6.5 Creedmoor Dies - recommendations?

I've tried Lee, RCBS, and Hornady. All 3 are fine but I prefer RCBS of the 3.

Would you rely on an AK as your primary defensive rifle?

My honest opinion... is because some want to... have to... believe that what they like and have is the be all, end end all best out there.... That's a deep rabbit hole to dive into in the gun/cartridge world when all things are considered.... Guess it helps em sleep better at night... 😄

Would you rely on an AK as your primary defensive rifle?

I voted AK, but It's close to a toss up. USMC so I know the AR/M16 platform intimately, and know how to take care of them. My only deciding factor is knowing the AK can stand up to a lot more neglect/punishment before malfunction. Accuracy = AR Ergonomics = AR This thing is gonna shoot...

    Mrs Awesome's First Buck

There's no "may have" to it. I was informed it was no longer my 280 about 30 minutes after the picture was taken.... 😄 Leaf is just a random leaf I picked up to cover the exit wound for the picture. Not sure what kind of tree. And no, the exit wound was nowhere near that big... 😄 That's a big leaf!

    Mrs Awesome's First Buck

I feel the same way! I never told her, but I had decided I was going to get her first buck mounted regardless of size... I was expecting to have to spend the money to get a spike mounted....... 😄

    Mrs Awesome's First Buck

Yeah, definitely getting it mounted since it's her first buck. I've been showing her different mounts on line so she can decide which pose she wants.

    Mrs Awesome's First Buck

This past Sunday came cruising through about an hour after daylight. She first spotted him about 150yds out. He made a bee line to us and turned at about 60yds, that's where I stopped him. She dropped him in his tracks with my 280 Rem. I load reduced recoil for her 7mm-08 but hadn't confirmed...

    One Rifle Hunter

I'm not there yet. When I was younger and not making much money I was a "one rifle hunter" but was a rifle/cartridge fanatic. I wanted one of everything. Now I have quite a few rifles and enjoy load development and shooting them all, but still find myself grabbing my favorite 1 or 2 when I...

    Odd Ladder Load Results

An odd thing happened to me over the weekend. Loaded up some ladder loads of 28 Nosler using Hodgdon US 869. I had 6 rounds loaded, first 2 increasing .4gr increments. Last 4 rounds going up in .3gr increments. The goal was to record velocity of each charge weight. Chronograph was set about 3 -...
