these guys used to have them as low as $1.20. http://copesdist.com/ not listed on their web page anymore but you might give the guy a call.
I bought the Tapco special several months back and was very pleased. The price is starting to take off a bit so I would stock up now. G3 mags are...
Same here 115, I have been interested in one of those since the first time I saw a pic of one. I think it would look awesome hanging with Grandads Sweet 16 Belguin Browning over the mantle.
I am a bit dissapointed in the chamberings, though the 35 or 300 savage would certainly do the...
jwarren,
My PTR came with the standard metal housing. The Plastic lower is also sold by ptr91 inc. but I think it is for an "upgraded" rifle package, or just an add on accesory.
Mike
The G3 clones (ptrs), are VERY reliable, And mags being available for a buck or two means you can really stock up. When I made my choice it came down to affordability. Good G3 clones are more expensive now and that price gap has closed considerably. Problem with the G3 is mainly the charging...
+1 on the tech sights......very good product, mimicks the AR style sight, excellent adjustment capability. Really tightened up my groups I have put them on all the 10-22s that I own.
You will be at a slight disadvantage with a tube fed rifle.....but I have seen them used effectively at Appleseeds. Some (maybe 25%) of the instruction stresses quick mag changes......having to come out of position to drop cartridges down the tube makes for a lot of "busy" work. You can do it...
hkpro.....don't take it too hard. my first post here had to do with a mossberg 500......and somebody came on third post, was a real smart a$$ and told me to call Mossberg. Its nothing personal, and you should stick around. there are alot of good guys here.
Krochus....dude, I almost choked...
Appleseed is about the shooter not the gun. You will likely get more from a rifle that can be loaded quickly. Mags best, stripper clips good.
I have seen the Appleseed COF shot.....well.......with a tube fed Marlin .22 Rifle
I assume if the world comes to an end before you rotate out and home the Corps will give you a rifle to use. Plan for the future and buy what you want for later....cause there may not be time if you wait.
Good advice so far from the other posters IMO (of the SKS is Cali. legal).
Mike
I second anything by Cooper.
For getting started try the "rifleman series" on the left hand side of this page:

Good Luck,

M1A
FAL
PTR91/G3
In that order, with practice any of the three are accurate, all are reasonably durable, and all will do the job.
If money is a big factor take a good look at the M1 Garand......can't be beat for the price right now.
FWIW I bought into the ptr/g3 family, while its...
Davo,
You got screwed through your own state politics, and through an unfortunate internal decision in RWVA.
I for one was very dissapointed things went the way they did, it was not right.
That does not diminish the value of attending an Appleseed. I do not know anywhere that you can...
shappy, we just had an Orlando event in January. Help find a range or a peice of land in South Florida and we will bring the show to you. We need boots on the ground down there.
I vote for Saturday if you can choose. Sunday only misses some crucial stuff. Sunday only is still good.
Mag fed 10 round minimum is ideal (I like the 10-22) but coures can be shot well with a bolt, tube fed, lever, whatever.......its about the shooter not the rifle.
