Guns you thought you’d like but didn’t…

Thompson 1927 A-1 and HK P30 (9mm) The A-1 was my dad's and I wanted to like it so bad, but the drum mag was a challenge to load and it was a jam-o-holic. The P30 was my first polymer framed firearm and it felt good just holding it, but not so much shooting it. It was traded for a S&W 686+.

Does your state require a 4473 for private sales ?

In CA: all handguns are required to use FFL. All modern long guns require FFL. C&R long guns require FFL03 & COE (certificate of eligibility) COE requires finger printing and FBI background check. All transactions through FFL also require the 10 day "cooling off" period. oddly enough if C&R...

    Left bolt rifle

My dad was left handed and had trouble finding lefty bolt guns. So if you decide to try it and don't like it, you probably won't have to much trouble selling it. Unless the caliber is near unobtanium.

OK What's the WORST Rifle You have ever owned ?

My father had a reproduction "Tommy" gun that had trouble running more than a few rounds through it. Never even got to try the drum mag. The stick mags wouldn't even feed correctly, then the bolt came apart. We were so excited to try it out and became disappointed very quickly.

6.5 PRC The Fastest Growing Hunting cartridge

I worked for a custom rifle builder for 6-7 months before he moved from CA to Idaho. 6.5 chamberings were dominated by 6.5 PRC (mostly for hunters) and 6GT for competition shooters. Just my experience.

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

Just ordered 2 Henry Golden Boys for the grandkids to shoot! They're turning 2 this summer. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but its never to early to purchase! I'll let their parents decide when its time to teach them to shoot.

Can you compete/have precision and not reload?

I believe to wring the most potential from your rifle, reloading is necessary. While there is good match ammo available, it's not tuned to your rifle specifically. Since you've tried the reloading avenue and don't care to do it, I'd suggest sending your rifle to a custom ammo manufacturer that...

Love affair with the 16 ga.

My dad was a big fan of the 16ga. He had a Savage/Stevens (?) semi auto when I was a kid. In my late teen years he traded it for a 1911 Remington pistol. He almost immediately regretted it. Years later in retirement, he used his SS check to purchase toys with. One of the first was a Browning...

What was your first gun and do you still have it (them)?

My first (Ithaca super single .410) was a Christmas gift from my Dad so I could hunt with him and my grandfather. I was 8 and still have it. It will be going to my granddaughter (my first grandchild). My first firearm purchase was at the age of 18. Bought a Glenfield model 60 from Walmart...

    Isolating scale query.

I have found my scales are much more sensitive to air current than vibration. You may want to take that into consideration when locating your scales.
