    45 Colt reload question

Just received a NIB Cimarron (Pietta, Italy) El Malo in 45 Colt, Octagonal barrel, 1873 Single Action Army. Can't tell if it is 1st generation or 2d generation. My reload manuals show data for 14,000 psi Standard loads OR 30,000 PSI High pressure loads. I don't know which to follow, as I...

    Gun oil or grease?

Looking for wisdom on proper lube for semi auto (Sig & Kahr) handguns. I just need to know basic guidelines for when to use gun oil or when gun grease is best (what lube on what parts). Appreciate advice.

Frankford Arsenal Case Trim & Prep Center is excellent tool. Fast & consistent. The RCBS cutter head is an improvement.

    .45 Half jkt, 220 gr...

Thanks all for advice. That clears my head on how to proceed. I think I will just pass them on to a professional reloader I know. I am just not one to "guess" my way into harm's way. :(

    .45 Half jkt, 220 gr...

I believe it's 45 ACP projectile, given the measurements. Just not able to find any data for a 220 gr bullet. To be fired in .45 Glock, if I can find any load data.

    .45 Half jkt, 220 gr...

.45 projectile. Sorry no picture. No load data in my 4 manuals. What is it, & how used? I'm calling it "half jkt" lead nose flat point. Diameters: .450 @ jkt, .451 @ base of knurled lead "upper half", length is .645. These were a gift, but history unknown. Appreciate some wisdom, so I know...

    Headstamp scrapes on 45 ACP...

Sorry, no picture. Getting some scrape marks on the outer rim of once-fired brass; both factory & handloads (185 gr to 230 gr). Possible cause? Appreciate some wisdom on this. Thanks.

Plunk test good. I do appreciate the good answers to my concerns.

    Sizing 45 ACP brass

After resizing & loading 45 ACP, my measurement @ mouth (light taper) is .471(manual states .473). Measurement just forward of head is .473 (manual states .476). Brass is mixed-stamp range pick-up. Is there a problem, or am I just being OCD? Foster CO-Ax press; RCBS carbide die. Appreciate...

Just trying to eliminate the light strikes. I copy what you say, & appreciate input.

    Fire formed brass...

So, what I'm getting here: Necksize OR use FL die (with comparator), but can't use both together? Thanks

    Fire formed brass...

Suspect headspace problem with FL sizing? Light primer strikes (click - no bang) & residue @ case neck. Just purchased a Lee Collet Necksizing die & wonder IF SAFE to load fire-formed cases without bump-sizing back a bit (.002) ? I can't figure out how to necksize only, while still adjusting...

    Cheap Press = Stuck Case?

Aha! Some wise soul on this forum suggested tightening spindle collet on Hdy die. Torqued it down really tight - No more stuck cases, regardless the lube I use. Thanks for saving my day :)

    Cheap Press = Stuck Case?

Suffering many stuck cases lately, I talked with savvy RCBS tech. Assuming die is correctly set, problem is with lube. He states RCBS spray lube is best he's used (not just because he works there). So, after I get the present case unstuck, I will follow his lead - Remembering to lube inside...

    223 SEATING CONFUSION...

Appreciate your reply. Seems best to seat by ogive (to get correct "jump"), even though COL is much longer than published data. Thanks again, & stay safe out there.

    223 SEATING CONFUSION...

Loading HDY 55gr V-MAX in Savage Axis ll. Using HDY OAL gage, bullet touches rifling @ 1.956. Minus .016 for "jump" = 1.940. This makes COL 2.336, which is much higher than COL specified in all my manuals. Cartridges fit magazine & cycle thru action, with no sign of jamming into rifling...

Guide rod & spring assy change...

Will talk with Kahr before changing recoil spring assy. Gun runs best with hotter loads, so will likely stick with factory standard spring. I do want to install steel guide rod. Thanks for help :)
