    Major virtue of a revolver

Certainly agree with this comment. Last I looked over 10,000 a year seek ER treatment for "accidental gunshot wounds". Even discarding the liars and instances due to real knucklehead behavior its a pretty significant number. If one's actual goal is to reduce the chance of a negative outcome a...

Hiking Revolver, what do you pack?

As long as the word hiking in the term hiking revolver is not taken too seriously my choice right now is 3" king cobra with 38 special self defense rounds. Comfortable to shoot and carry. Frequently just stuff it the front pocket of cargo pants when concealment is not a big concern. If riding...

    Concealed Carry For Old Folks

Mine too. I think I would go with something heavier than 20 oz though. Colt Cobra with its cushy rubber grip comes to mind first. Taurus 856, Kimber K6 and Ruger SP101 also might work. Of course assuming he manages the trigger and recoil ok. Since he "knows his stuff" though he probably knows...

Capacity of the handgun you carry most of the time.

8+1 berretta apx carry in a pocket. The 8 round mag provides a better grip than the 6 rounder and is no hindrance in cargo pants or shorts. 6 in a new model 3" colt king cobra is getting some belt time but pocket carry of the small 9 is far more common. Capacity is low on the priority list.

How are the shooting finances handled at your home?

When we first were married we had one joint account and I was responsible for paying the bills. She stayed home to raise our two kids for 10 years so money was often extremely tight. Once she went back to work, my micro managing of expenditures was a needless source of tension so she opened her...

    What's your favorite caliber?

Favorite reloading caliber 38/357. Favorite store bought caliber 9mm. I shoot 4 times as many reloads as store bought so I guess 38/357 is the favorite. My favorite guns influence what is my favorite caliber. But then the caliber influences what are my favorite guns.

What revolver do you use for home defense?

6 shot 4.20" barreled GP100 Match Champion is my wife's pick for home defense. The 7 shot 6" barreled gp100 is just a little unwieldy for that use.

    Which handgun for Alaska trip?

Knowing little, and going on what was posted I would take one of the 10mm pistols as it covers more bases. Minor gripe: As someone that doesn't memorize glock model numbers why not include the caliber when listing a glock other than a 17 or 19.

    What is your minimum?

Don't carry often, but when I do carry it is a usually a 7 round 9mm in a pocket or inside the waistband Less frequently it is a 5 round 38 spl (lcr) loaded with wadcutters so that is my current minimum. Now If someone would give me for free a reliable LCP sized gun in any caliber that would...

    Lipsey & Ruger…ask for a GP100 in 41 Magnum!!!

Well if Ruger made a 41 mag GP100 I would buy one. 6 shot 4.25" or longer barrel, decent trigger and fiber optic front sight, rubber grips would be my preference. 41 special version would also work for me but chance of that happening approaches zero, Since not much would change it could be...

Anyone else begrudgingly packing a 9mm

Well for me the punybellum is something of an upgrade so i am good with it. For regular albeit infrequent carry I've switched from a 38 LCR to small 9mm (Beretta APX Carry ie: Nano 2.0). Upgrade reasons being 1. Out of short barrel the 9mm is a more capable round. 2. Other than lightly loaded...

    Beretta APX

A loaded chamber indicator would have been a nice feature that Beretta failed to include. Otherwise it looks like a fine pistol and exceptionally good value. I do like that you can also purchase a grip frame with a manuel safety for the full size version. It's good to have the choice...

    Minimum trigger weight for carry?

Re: Minimum acceptable trigger pull weight. I am persuaded in a simple risk/benefit analysis that modifying a stock trigger on a carry gun presents more potential legal risk than any possible benefit for me. Don't know how much risk is there but there is certainly some risk. The more important...

What is your primary carry configuration

Answered revolver with no reload because I dont count the speed strip which remains in a locked case in my car. Currently vetting a small single stack 9 (Beretta APX carry) to replace my Ruger LCR snub so would answer differently soon. Testing Is so far so good just need another session at the...

When did you start reloading ?

Got into it late January of 2020. Was looking at purchasing a .new 44 special GP100 that Cabela's had marked way down to clear out their stock. I hesitated for a few days because I just could not see myself paying almost $40 dollars a box for ammo!. Wow things are different now. Anyway I...

Happy to be a pack rat/hoarder

Heard on the Gun Talk podcast Tom Grissom quoting a ammo manufacturer. "We are making more than enough ammo to supply the shooting needs of the public. However we can't make ammo fast enough to supply the stockpiling demand." Sound right to me as there was an ammo surplus right before the...

    Ruger LCR .357 Magnum

After much research, for a short barrel revolver I settled on .38 special target wadcutters, lighter recoil, adequate penetration and a cutting edge for a better wound channel over a more aerodynamic bullet profile. Out of that 1 7/8" length barrel hollow point expansion is iffy though i...

Colt Peacemaker Pattern SA Revolver Carry Advice

. No expert here so my only advice would be to choose one (SA) with a transfer bar or similar safety. Ruger or Freedom Arms or ? A transfer bar simplifies the "make safe process" by eliminating the need to lower the hammer on an empty chamber. You also gain an extra round (6 loaded instead of...

    Henry Rifles

Big boy steel 41 mag. Was chewing on getting the 357 magnum for quite awhile but ended up with the 41 mag. Happy with that decision. Would consider the carbine version of either but nothing is available right now and I've really spent too much this year.

No 4 die set for 41 mag.

Lee does sell a separate 41 mag factory crimp die. So you have the option. Brownell's sells them though they currently are out of stock. I use Lee 3 die set for 38/357 and seperate factory crimp die for magnum loads where I want the best crimp For 41 mag I use a Redding 3 die set. Pricey but...
