    28 gauge dove/grouse load developement

I have patterned some factory loads - i will post that info later on today. I don't quite know what you are meaning by pushing the limits on shot size and choke?

    28 gauge dove/grouse load developement

I am currently doing some experimenting in 28 gauge load development, for both dove and grouse hunting. below are the loads and patterns (all done at 40 yards, with a IC out of my CZ ringneck SxS, 28 gauge, 28 inch barrels). The hulls used for all loads are Fiocchi, as i have alot of those...

28 gauge reloading on Mec Sizemaster - crimp is flaring shell

I did some patterning here of my various load, and average of velocity of 10 shells fired. Most interesting was the difference between the same load of AA hul, one with the WAA28-HS and one with claybuster CB5034-28. The clay buster wad was slightly faster, however the pattern appeared to have...

28 gauge reloading on Mec Sizemaster - crimp is flaring shell

Thanks - this helps alot!!!! What is the expected case life out of 28 gauge Winchester AAs? I was hoping to get 5 to 6 reloads out of a shell... Is there a better 28 gauge hull to use? Currently i shoot about 2 boxes of 28 gauge a week, and have been shooting new AAs for the past year - so i...

28 gauge reloading on Mec Sizemaster - crimp is flaring shell

I made that adjustment, and removed most of the flare at the end of the shell. However, the crimp has begun to twist alittle - what is the cause of that? I have played with the cam alittle, and haven't been able to get ride of the twist on the end of the hull.

28 gauge reloading on Mec Sizemaster - crimp is flaring shell

II am using different wads, however i would agree with you - i will just stick with AAs, as the Fiocchi hulls are actually longer than AA, thus the crimp is alot different...

28 gauge reloading on Mec Sizemaster - crimp is flaring shell

In order to move the main body down, all the need to do is to loosen the nut and then turn the crimp die punch down – then re-tighten the lock nut?

28 gauge reloading on Mec Sizemaster - crimp is flaring shell

Oh – on the hulls, they are Fiocchi, got the guns and the shells mixed around. I am not mixing hulls with the same load, I just wanted to see if the reloader would do it to both the AA hulls and the Fiocchi hulls. I am working on two separate loads for each type of hulls. When I try adjusting...

28 gauge reloading on Mec Sizemaster - crimp is flaring shell

Hello, I recently converted a 12 gauge Mec sizemaster to 28 gauge, and am having some issues setting up the crimp. I am using both Winchester AA HS and Franchi hulls, loaded with about 12 grains of 20/28 and 3/4 of an oz of lead. On both of these loadings, when i go to final crimp, the crimp...

    Is 28-gauge worth a look?

I have been shooting skeet for the past 2 years (2 rounds a week) with a 28 gauge - my standard load is 3/4 or 7/8 of an ounce. I buy new AAs all the time in 28 gauge, 3/4 is all I know of being available where I buy AAs.... The 28 gauge has more payload capacity than a .410 - that being said...

    Is 28-gauge worth a look?

Huge fan of the 28 gauge, ammo isn't that bad, it can be had for around $70 a case (https://www.outdoorlimited.com/shotgun-ammo/28-gauge-ammo/fiocchi-28-gauge-ammunition-fi28hv8case-2-3-4-8-chilled-lead-shot-3-4-oz-1300-fps-250-rounds/). That being said, non lead ammo is really hard to fine, as...

    Considering buying a 20 gauge O/U

Well, I really appreciate all of your replies, and insight. It was a rainy day in Minnesota today, so I scrapped the BBQ plans, and went shopping. I found this CZ Woodcock G2 in 20 gauge on sale for $700. It is a bit heavy, as I also looked at a used Franchi Instinct, and a new CZ RedHead, which...

    Considering buying a 20 gauge O/U

I have a browning O/U in 12 gauge that is a heavy fixed choke Skeet/Skeet gun. I should probably sell it, as I really don't like it, i shoot it fine, but the browning stocks just don't fit me well.... I have never brought it hunting, since it isn't choked for it....

    Considering buying a 20 gauge O/U

I am trying to simplify my shotgun collection, and found a "hole" in my current collection, after I got rid of my silver pigeon in 12 ga. I reason for selling that gun is I never used it, since it was too heavy to hunt upland with, and I didn't like shooting it. I am a half sport shooter half...

Unknown percussion musket - with weird cap cover/safety

Interesting - i found this posting on the 1809 Potsdam:https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=6281 So it probably started life as this musket, but was then converted with different stock and side plate. Any idea where the side plate is from?

Unknown percussion musket - with weird cap cover/safety

It is a smooth bore..... So the it appears to be a converted 1777 french, or like musket? The stock has several cracks in it - do you think i should fix those cracks or leave it be? Also, while the outside of the barrel is in decent condition, the inside has a good layer of rust. Do you think...

Unknown percussion musket - with weird cap cover/safety

Took some pictures of the side plate - There are some markings - mostly just a the "77". There was also some markings on the trigger guard and the trigger itself.

Unknown percussion musket - with weird cap cover/safety

I don't know - I will try taking it apart tomorrow. I should be able to just take off the bands and back the screws out - to take the side plate out?

Unknown percussion musket - with weird cap cover/safety

Here is some more pictures, one interesting thing that i noticed was the end of the side plate is round - not drawn to a point. from what i can tell this is a later feature. So it is probable that this rifle is a mismatch of parts? Any idea on the vintage? I.e. 1860s?

Unknown percussion musket - with weird cap cover/safety

I was at a local auction and saw this interesting musket for sale. Ended up winning it for $300 (i am guessing I paid too much). Anyways, i have no idea what the musket is, it looks like it was maybe a conversion piece from flint lock, as it has this weird percussion cap lock/safety. From what I...
