.32 H&R magnum. 6 rounds in a very shootable pocket-sized small frame revolver. Decent, if hard to find, self defense ammo, and also shoots .32 S&W long or short for practice or plinking. Would like to see S&W make another airweight J-frame in this caliber, and better ammo availability.
A Ruger LCR 327 Federal Magnum, and a S&W 431, which I load with .32 H&R magnum or .32 S&W long, are two of my favorite revolvers - 6 rounds, compact, and easy shooting.
Nostalgic and, as others have said, “obsolete” might be a better term than inferior. The majority of my collection consists of revolvers, which many consider obsolete and inferior to modern polymer pistols, including several favorites in .32 caliber. Also, a 40 year old 1911.
I like this response. The formula above gives the velocity vs rpm at the muzzle, but after that the air resistance against, and its affect on, forward velocity and rotation are not necessarily proportional. I have seen a football thrown against a strong headwind - the ball’s forward motion...
The last and finally time I was in a Dick’s Sporting Goods Store, they insisted that I produce my ID to buy a small Swiss Army knife. I was 60 at the time. Store policy - not local law.
I plan to significantly downsize when I retire. I could do just fine with about 20% of what I have now. My collection is a record of discovery. With each new gun, I learned more about what works for me, and what doesn’t, what I like, and what I actually will use. This process of refinement has...
I’ve become a fan of the .32 H&R magnum in a small, 6-shot, snub nose revolver (.327 Fed Mag LCR, or one of the several discontinued S&W J-frames). 6 rounds in a pocket-size revolver, acceptable self defense power with some of the modern ammo options, and very, very shootable.
Why is there a gun and ammo panic? Well, in my area:
- The city and county are releasing criminals from jail - I guess they don’t want to be sued if inmates contract the virus.
- A significant number of police officers have tested positive, and are off the job and in quarantine.
- Law...
“Why aren't semi-auto pistol caliber carbines (PCC) the #1 choice/recommendation for home defence?”
For me, it’s because they won’t fit in the night stand, or into my pocket when I go to answer an unexpected knock at the door.
Well, I hope to do some consolidation and rationalization, but as it stands today:
22 LR
22WMR
32 ACP
32 H&R magnum
327 Federal magnum
380
38 Sp
9mm
357 magnum
45 LC
45 ACP
410
12 Ga.
I could probably live without the 45’s, 32 ACP, and maybe the 9mm
