    10mm or .45 ACP?

.45 ACP. I've got a conversion cylinder for my Blackhawk, a Charter Arms Pitbull snubby, and 4 1911s. I also load and shoot a bunch of .357 mag. Don't want or need another caliber.

    Best backyard deer caliber?

I like the .45 70 with the big bullet at about 1000 feet per sec for up close high shoulder DRT kills. There doesn't seem to be a good way to keep them away from and off our apple trees. We get so many of them that I have used about everything I've got rifle and pistol wise, especially when...

    Best. 357 lever gun?

Like many have said, I have levers in Marlin and Winchester, not .357 mag though. My .357 is a Rossi with a 16 inch barrel. I've never had any problems, feeding or otherwise, and it's my grand kids favorite rifle. It's plenty accurate, light, and only cost me $500 3 or 4 years ago. I recommend...

    Hunting Ammo Poll

I answered that I have enough components for 10 years. Actually I've had to buy some bullets in a few calibers but they were available on line. Luckily I had the foresight to pick up a few thousand primers and some powder pretty much every time I saw it over the last 10 years. That should last...

What rifles for deer hunting this year?

I've worked up some new loads and re-sighted in my Savage 110 in 30 06 (5 deer), Rem 788 in .243 (30 + deer), and Marlin 1895 in 45 70 (2 deer), recently. Depending on weather, I'm leaning towards the Marlin this coming Saturday morning.

    Ruger Max 9

The same trip I also picked up a Ruger LCP2 22 LR. I had seen them and heard about them so after handing one at the LGS I took that home too. I was carry an original LCP as a BUG, if I'm not carrying my 442, in an ankle holster. The LCP 2 22 LR shot great and ran flawlessly. The one problem is...

    Ruger Max 9

I picked one up last week at my LGS. It was priced at $419. I was carrying my original LC9 in a Bianchi OWB holster. The Ruger Max 9 fit right in the same holster. It's a bit wider, otherwise, about the same dimensions. I gave it a cleaning and a quick once over, then shot about 300 rounds. It...

    2400 powder

I've been using 2400 for decades for .357 mag and .45 Colt. A few months back I started loading some reduced recoil loads in .30-06 for the Grandsons. Works well for a lot of what I use.

    Old school patrol rifle

My Dad was a cop for 30+ years. When I was a kid he took me to the indoor range in the basement of the police station. I asked him what else they had besides revolvers and shot guns. He brought out a Thompson and shot a mag, in short bursts. I was and still am impressed, even after being issued...

    Memorial Day Reminder: Thanks Jake

Mine was Air Force too and passed away a few years ago. I remember him as well as several buddies I lost each Memorial day.

    “Carbine” Classes...?

I just had a "carbine day" at the range myself yesterday. Shot my Bushmaster Patrol rifle, my Rossie 92 in .357 mag, my SKS carbine, and my Hipoint 9mm carbine. All carbines with iron sites. All capable firearms, all a bunch of fun!

    Snub Relevance?

Only the OP can decide, but, most folks should probably be fine with a small pistol or revolver. I carried a Hipower for many years, and before that a 1911. I always carry but now my usual carry piece is the LCP or sometimes a 5 shot .38 spl 442. Both these guns have a bit more recoil then I...

    Prices on SKS rifles

Reading this thread got me thinking, so I had to grab one out of the safe and fire 40 rounds! Fun rifle to shoot and plenty accurate at 100 yards for me with iron sites. Got some for $99 10 or so years ago. I saw a decent Norico for sale last year for $400. I'm thinking they won't go down much...

    M16 myths

I used an M16A1. Like some others have said, I kept it clean and had no problems, no jams. At various times I used a standard 1911 .45, and a pump shotgun. Most of the time it was my M16. I was raised shooting a .30 06 and .30 30. Seeing the effects of the .556, I always thought it created a...

Ammo shortage- how did it affect your season/is it still affecting you?

Like alot of others fellas, I have more components for pistol and rifle then I'll probably ever use. That said I am working up a few loads with different hunting bullets then usuall. I was a bit concerned about .22 LR. I recently bought a heavy used gun cabinet with a "stuck" bottow drawer...

    Why would I want a .410

I have a half dozen 12 gauges in pump and auto loader and their great. I use them alot. I also have 2 .410s, a bolt action and a savage over under .410/22 lr. The .410s have taken a bunch of rabbits, squirrels, and various varments around the farm. The grandkids love them and there fun to shoot...

    Two word for S&W SD9VE

Good Enough Just bought a used one with 2 mags, booklet, and box, for $199. Looked almost new, no wear or scratches. There was not much else available. Seems pretty much like a Glock. 150 or so handloaded 115s, 124s, and 147 grain rounds through it, flawlessly. Good range gun or loaner for...

    Favorite 380 acp/38 special/357 magnum powder

I must be old fashioned, I use Unique for all three. Also use it for 9mm, .45 Colt, and .45 ACP. I do have 2400 and Blue Dot for real magum power. I've got other pistol powders, and of course several rifle powders, but I seem to use more Unique then anything else.

    I did a 180 on attitude towards AR15 platforms

My story sounds very similar. I carried one for my Uncle and when I got back never wanted to see another. Then almost 50 years later I saw an A2 model and thought "I already load .223, what the heck" so I picked one up. No optics, I like the carry handle. It shoots great and now sits in my...

    A Small 22lr

I like my Taurus PLY22. Other then the slide which is tough to retract, its easy to carry and to shoot. With the tip up barrel I never have to. I've NEVER had a jam with factory mags. After market mags are horrible. It's about the size of my LCP but easier and cheaper to shoot. I was told you...
