    Squibs, Yuck!

After my first squib, I bought a powder check die for my LnL AP. It stops the press if the charge is under or over. Haven't had a squib since.

What happens when a primer won't seat....

I deprime and tumble before I load. For 45 ACP, I use a large primer pocket cleaner to verify each piece of brass, and sort them into large and small primer bins. I load both large and small primed cases, so I often get some of both on my range, especially when a guest shows up with factory...

    what new reloading press ?

I started out on a rockchucker. It is a solid press. If you get one, the primer catcher in WelshShooter's photo is a good investment- the primers went all over the place when I decapped on mine. The rockchucker was more than enough press for anything I wanted to load until I got into 50 BMG...

What would be better overall for my needs - Dillon 550 or 650?

When I was looking for a progressive press some years ago, I narrowed the field down to the 650 and the LnL AP because both had 5 stations. (I wound up getting the LnL AP because of the lower cost for caliber conversions.) I wanted a 5 station press so I could install a powder check die. I am...

    500 smith and wesson reloads

I bought one several years ago to add to my collection. It's a fun gun to shoot. I cast my own bullets and powder coat them. I started with H100 moderate loads, but after 5 shots, the ribs on the rubber grips made my palms sore. I worked up a lighter load with Trail Boss and it's much easier...

Shot some LEAD bullets from a revolver yesterday

I agree, but I'm retired and have the time clean my guns. The bigger issue for me is leading in the barrel. I started powder coating my cast bullets for 44 Mag, 38 Special and S&W 500. Smoke is not an issue in my backyard range, but the PC rounds save a lot of time cleaning the lead out of...

Pneumatic powered bullet sizer? Anyone made one?

I agree. I have been watching this thread- I knew jmorris would chime in. I wish I had his ingenuity.

    Progressive User Method Preference

I run them through my LnL AP first with only the decapping die, then wet tumble with pins If the brass is really dirty, I may wet tumble first. I then prime off the press with my RCBS hand priming tool. I used to prime on the press, but I like to check the brass during hand priming and it is...

    avoiding double charges

I bought a powder cop, but switched to the RCBS lockout die. Murphy's law says that the one time you get distracted and don't watch the powder cop, that round will have no charge or a double charge. I admire reloaders who can focus on the process and never miss looking into a case or checking...

Want/Need a new single stage press for large cases,

I use the press to size 50 BMG cases. Even with Imperial Sizing wax, some of them take a considerable amount of pressure to size. I have never had a problem with the handle slipping. I personally like the ratchet design- I can adjust the angle of the handle to suit the height of my bench.

Want/Need a new single stage press for large cases,

Another vote for Lee classic cast. I bought one to load 50 BMG. It has no problem sizing those big cases. Once I set it up and started using it, I liked it so much I keep it mounted one the bench and use it for decapping and loading rifle rounds (I use a progressive for pistol). As others...

    How do you charge cases?

I charge pistol cases on my LnL AP, and use a powder check die to detect over/under charges. For rifle, I use my Lyman dispenser and charge one case at a time and seat the bullet before going to the next. That way, if I get interrupted, I don't have to worry about skipping a case or double...

    Chronograph question

I have the Pro Chrono with Bluetooth. Never had a problem connecting it my iphone and the app is very good- it gives the stats in either text or graphical form, and allows you to name each string. I enter the caliber and powder weight in the name field for easy reference. The shot lists stay...

    Why the disbelief?

One of the first things I learned in my 36 year banking career is that you can torture the numbers until they confess to anything. A reloading cost analysis depends on too many variables to come up with a one size fits all model. If you don't like to reload and do it only for the cost savings...

Cleaning and rust removal from my reloading dies.

Another vote for Evapo-Rust. I I read about it in another thread some time ago and decided to give it a try. Had some Lyman dies I bought on ebay that had some rust on them. Evapo Rust did a great job cleaning them up. You can soak them overnight, but I use it in my ultrasonic cleaner, which...

    Single Stage Press Suggestions

I have a Rockchucker, Lee Classic cast, RCBS turret and a Hornady LnL AP set up in my reloading room. I bought the Lee Classic to reload 50 BMG- it resizes those big cases easily. I also use it for sizing/depriming other rifle brass and low volume pistol brass because of the spent primer...

    First Progressive Press Input

Once again, jmorris has hit the nail on the head. Once the load workup is complete, reloading becomes a rote mechanical process. Once I got into the rhythm of loading a particular round, I found that my mind would occasionally wander and I worried about making a mistake. I started reloading...

    Cabela's has become a joke

It's an unfortunate fact of life that big box stores need to move high margin products to cover their costs, and can't handle low margin items, even if they get recurring business from them (future sales don't count in this month's numbers). To the op- ask around about local gun stores- the one...

Single-stage "utility" press for large rifle brass

I bought the Lee Classic Cast to reload 50 BMG. It handles the big cases easily (as long as you use Imperial sizing wax). Like mgmorden and WestKentucky, I also like the fact that it drops the spent primers through the ram. I now use it to deprime and resize all of my rifle brass as well as...

    Cure for rusted dies?

I never heard of Evapo Rust until I read this thread. Picked up a gallon the other day and tried it out on some used Lyman dies I bought on Ebay several years ago. I tried cleaning the dies after I bought them, but gave up- the knurled parts resisted all my attempts to clean them. I read on...
