If you decide to go with WST, the load I use is 3.5 grains for 158 grain SWCs, which gives a velocity of about 730 fps in my pre 27 6-inch Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum revolver. It also shoots well and very clean with 148 grain DEWCs with a load of 3.0 grains. I use Clean Shot for .357 magnum loads.
I would test Bullseye, Unique and Titegroup at the prescribed starting loads. Every gun is different and will provide different results. My experience with cast 158 gr. loads is that Bullseye works the best with MOST guns but that may not apply to you! Personally, I also like to use WST powder...
12 grains of 2400 gives you exactly 1100 fps out of my 6.5 inch barrel. Elmer Keith used 14 grains of 2400 over his 170 grain SWCs. I would never go there even with my Outdoorsman!
I own a Smith and Wesson Outdoorsman that was built on the N frame before the advent of the .357 Magnum to handle hot .38 Special loads designated the .38-44. Here is a chart of loads that replicate the original loads. As you can see, they are quite stout and only safe in all steel revolvers...
OK, so I shot 40 rounds of the 4.0 grain WST 124 gr. Hornady RN FMJ loaded to an OAL of 1.15. In my Star Super B they cycled perfectly and in my Star BM which is more highly sprung I had two stove pipes at the very start and after that all cycled well. It felt quite "snappy" for a light load...
Thank you very much! That is exactly the info I wanted to know. I measured the bullets at .593 and I plan to have an OAL of 1.155 to start, so there should be no compression of the charge between 4.0 grains and 4.5 grains. Nonetheless, I am loading for target shooting so I think starting at 4.0...
I'd like to revive this thread. I just started reloading 9mm and the only powder I was bale to find was WST. It shoots great out of my .38 special oads after some careful load development work. I have some Hornady 9mm 124 gr. FMJ-Rn to load and was wondering if any of the other guys on this...
My snubby load is a 148 grain DEWC with 3.4 grains of Winchester WST. Very accurate even out of a 2 inch barrel at 15 yards and very damaging. This load is ONLY for steel framed snubbies.
I don't see why you couldn't carry cocked and locked. I carry my BM from time to time that way. The 3 pound trigger is not inherently dangerous in my opinion. It is hardly a hair trigger. The Guardia Civil in Spain carried it that way frequently without any mishaps.
Hi, I just picked up a pristine Winchester 1500 but it came without the 3-set spacers for the forearm. I have ordered a set but can't find anything about how they are to be stacked. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks for your help!
Anyone here have a Winchester 1400 0r 1500 semi-auto shotgun? I recently bought one in pristine condition but it was missing the set of 3 forearm spacers. I have ordered a new set but have no idea in what order they need to be put in. Can anyone tell me? Thanks in advance!
