Striker Fired vs 1911 - a dispassionate discussion?

You get that with any precision firearm. There is a huge difference between a commodity duty gun and a high end 1911. When talking apples to apples..$500 striker vs $500 1911..I'll take the striker. Comparing a $500 striker to a $1500 1911...1911. :)

Striker Fired vs 1911 - a dispassionate discussion?

I'm happy as well to see we made it this far without devolving into a flame war. :) I've found out that I can comfortably and reliably shoot a number of handguns with a variety of manual of arms. My preference as of late is for SA/DA semi-autos. That is only a preference though. At the range...

semi auto or revolver for woman?

I would like to propose a bit of a thought experiment. Think back to the first handgun you ever purchased. Was it the best thing you ever purchased? Did it fit your ability, preferences, and hand size? For most of us the answer is no. I know it is for me. We made the best decision we could...

Striker Fired vs 1911 - a dispassionate discussion?

I don't think anyone recovers from shooting a good single action - being it a 1911, SA Colt, or whatever. Once you've had it you don't want to give it up. That said I've found some excellent SA/DA triggers (Sig particularly) and the newer batch of strikers have great triggers (PPQ, VP9).

Striker Fired vs 1911 - a dispassionate discussion?

We are in full agreement. It isn't that you can't have a reliable micro 1911 but that more of them that you find are unreliable or at least picky. Not my ideal carry weapon.

Striker Fired vs 1911 - a dispassionate discussion?

These days a striker fired polymer wonder does as well of a job as any all metal handgun out there when you're looking at casual range and CCW use. For all the bickering we like to do a Glock, Walther, Springfield, Ruger, S&W, or whatever is a reliable straight shooting weapon. If you want a...

What is the most efficient 9mm round you carry for Self and Home Defense

Frankly I think it is all picking nits at this point. Shot placement matters more than anything and an expanding bullet is better than a FMJ. Having said all of that I primarily carry either 124gr or 147gr JHP. I used to worry about carrying the best Ranger or Federal HST - now I mostly just...

I have the SP-01. Take a look at one of the Cajun Gun Works kits if you want to improve it. Great kit and drops DA to 8# and SA to 3.8#. if you go with more of a race or target kit the reduction is far greater.

    .22 Magnum Pistol finished!

Interesting designs. I've been watching you progress and we all can see how you're modifying your designs and learning how you go.

    How Often Do You Practice/Train?

Typically once a week on the weekend. Too much goes on during the weekdays. I'm looking at joining a nearby club with private indoor and outdoor ranges.

Help deciding on a concealed carry gun.

Spot on - it isn't the PPQ trigger by any stretch of the imagination. I own 2 PPQs. The PPS is solid but could definitely use improvement in the trigger area. As a sidebar the Creed is also crude but functional. I don't care for that model at all.

Help deciding on a concealed carry gun.

My only comment on the LCP is I do not care for the trigger. Otherwise it is a small, lightweight, concealable carry gun.

    What Pistol do you carry.

Most days Glock 43 + 1 mag. I will occasionally carry a Glock 19, Sig 226, or Walther PPQ. I don't carry anything I don't train with often enough to be familiar and comfortable with the manual of arms. All of that said, most days it still falls to the Glock 43. Small, easy to conceal, goes...

Help deciding on a concealed carry gun.

PPS or Glock 43. Both are great options. In all honestly just about anything out there now works pretty well and is reliable. It comes down to preference.

Calling all AK, AZ, MT, TX, ID, UT, and S/ND members.

Kansas City is a bit different than you describe. Parts of the are are very liberal, parts are very conservative. For the most part Kansas City is 1.5M people made up of a bunch of small towns. I grew up in a small town in NE Missouri and many of the areas in KC have essentially the same...

Help Please? ID 5 shot pocket revolver

Excellent help, Jim. Thank you very much. Barring the mainspring it is capable of firing but as noted the metal is in such poor condition it shouldn't be attempted. Barrel is unrifled. My father found it in the wall of an old Victorian house during a renovation project. Good to know more...

Help Please? ID 5 shot pocket revolver

HI everyone. Long time reader, first time poster, :) I finally took a harder look at a non-functioning 5 shot derringer that has been in the family for years. To my knowledge it has never functioned and has been a wall-hanger in my father's gun cabinet for the last 45+ years. I tore it apart...
