Conetrol scope bases and rings. Has anyone used them? Thoughts?

I used them years ago, they looked really slick. If I remember, they did the job, but were tedious to adjust. Didn't bother again.

Do you have trouble seeing iron sights?

I'm 65. Use reading glasses since my 40's, but have good long-distance vision. My working rifle has a 20" barrel. I've used almost exclusively iron sights for the past 15 years on all my rifles, with stellar outcomes. Have to add that my bacon's health depends on me hitting things in the right...

    Youtube restricting gun channels

After Twitter, Musk could buy Youtube... That would be a serious liberal meltdown.

Screen Actors Guild Safety Bulletins - RE: Firearms

Hollywood loves guns (onscreen). Since the filming of gunfights and other shenanigans involves handling real guns, they have an industry-standard set of procedures. These procedures are contained in the Screen Actors Guild Safety Bulletins, which encompass different aspects of safety on set...

    CRF Issue

Could it be the wrong extractor? The bolt diameter is the same across most calibers, but the boltface is cut according to the case’s base diameter, and the length of the extractor’s claw varies accordingly. To check, you’d need to compare dimensions with a rifle of same caliber.

    The SKS and Hunting Deer

Get good bullets for it, and you’ve got yourself the most reliable, handy lil’ autoloader available. Nothing holds 10 rounds of centerfire ammo in a more compact package, and the 7.62x39 (with the right bullet) is just as good as a .30-30.

    Winchester 1897 slugger

Heat gun and twist. Epoxy gets rubbery above a given temperature, which varies depending on the epoxy type. Heat it high enough and it gives up entirely, but here you are in steel tempering temperatures, have to be careful with what you do, be it just for the colors you’ll end up with on the parts…

    Winchester 1897 slugger

I’ll finish the leather on the recoil pad then post the completed work, that Limbsaver is an eyesore… Very effective, but definitely not in style!

    Winchester 1897 slugger

For all those heaping compliments, thanks, I appreciate… I just love good guns: they’re tools that you can rely on, often trusting your life to them. And an old piece like this one has all its history and that of the people who owned it and lived with it, I really want to keep its character. My...

    Winchester 1897 slugger

Yes, that would be perfect… There are very few epoxy resins rated higher than that, I’m only aware of T88 and some specialty items from Delo wich get around 7,000psi, but these would be overkill for most needs… A very good solder is rated 5000-6000psi, and they’ve been gluing elephant guns...

    Winchester 1897 slugger

Since I didn’t know how the sights would do, I just used standard quick-set epoxy: I didn’t want something that would put up too much of a fight when removing it… The best slow-cure epoxy we can find around here only gets to 2000psi tensile strength. Although this would be plenty enough for...

    Winchester 1897 slugger

That fiber optic… Can’t really hide it, can we? :D I can’t see a standard post unless in direct midday sunlight: any shadows or dark backgrounds and it disappears in a blur. I’ve been using front fiber optics and rear ghost sights on my guns for years, and I wouldn’t want anything else on my...

    Winchester 1897 slugger

Could be… The Winchester records indicate that the gun was delivered in 1907 with the standard 30” trap barrel, but was returned to the factory in 1919 and fitted with this 24” Cylinder barrel.

    Winchester 1897 slugger

Next, I looked into sights. Yep, sights, more specifically a ghost ring rear and fiber optic front. I’m not into regular bird shooting, and with the Cylinder barrel this will be a great slug gun: home defense, pigs, warthogs, the odd antelope, and good leopard medicine. All my rifles have had...

    Winchester 1897 slugger

A few months ago, I got lucky and became the new owner of a 115 years old Winchester 1897. I’ve never been a great fan of shotguns: I’ve owned a few as working tools, but never warmed to any of them. Till I met this ugly duckling… Under the century old grime, the stock had an ebony diamond...

    Improvements to Bolt Action Shotgun

There are detachable magazines for pump and semi-auto shotguns, 5 and 10 rounds. You can probably adapt one with small modifications. Mossberg, Remington, Rock Island, Saiga, many others.

    Winchester 1897

$699 could be high, and could be cheap... Some of the early 1897 have good collector value, depending on grade, age, conditions, and how original they are. An early, fully original Trap Gun or Pigeon Grade in good conditions would be worth far more than $699, even with little finish left. What...

More on Kentucky Ballistics - Serbu

The test that he didn't do... And that should have been done: simulate a case rupture. First with a standard round, then (IF nothing bad happened), with one of those SLAP, and then (IF nothing bad happened still), with a 150% pressure test-round. If nothing bad happens with the first round I...

    French Buffalo-Slave rifle

Regarding the name... This is a French rifle, "Carabine Buffalo", modèle Slave. In French, Slave means Slav, from the Slavic countries, not the English word "slave". As for "Carabine", when it comes to hunting firearms a "carabine de chasse" is a rifle, and a "fusil de chasse" is a smoothbore...

    Interesting test

Impressive! And I absolutely agree with his take on the price... When one spends $2-3,000 on a hunt because he's passionate about that, it would be plain dumb to skimp on ammo and try to save a few bucks, when you can have the best of the best for the price of a couple of Unicorn Fudge Packed...
