The brains of our ancestral species did not really begin to grow until we climbed down out of the trees and began to eat meat. As someone already noted it takes a lot of intestine to digest plant matter. When we began to eat meat regularly it allowed us to put less energy into feeding a large...
I pretty well gave up using fine powders such as H110 and such because of the leaks. It works fine with 2400 and most other larger grain powders. This is OK as I am usually not trying to squeeze the last FPS from my loads.

At the place where I once lived we had a problem with copperheads mainly at night. The four dogs in the back yard had all been bitten and they hated the snakes. They had an entirely different bark when they were tangling with one than they were barking at deer or other critters. After being...
They are not made anymore but if you can find one at reasonable price you might look at a Ruger Deerfield. It shoots a .44 mag, sort of a 10 22 on steroids. I use mine for deer hunting but pop the scope off it and it has nice sights for close in work. The down side is the price of them seems...
I have one in 45/70 and one in .44 mag and both shoot well. On the other hand I had one in .223 (wouldn't eject empty) One in .308 (poor fit to receiver) .357 (too long chamber) and one in .44 that had an oversize bore. I got rid of these last four but the 45/70 is the one that I often take...
I reload for 44 rifles only and have probably loaded thousands of mid to heavy loads and have had only a half dozen pieces of brass go bad on me. If you load 44s at these levels it seems that the brass is almost immortal. I see no reason that your brass should not get many more than 4 re...
I may be wrong but I think the shotgun and rifle frames are two different frames and NEF will not put a rifle barrel on a shotgun frame. Check their website on the accessory barrels part.

Deer gun for the wife
I can't believe you all left a line like this on without saying. Good trade! All kidding aside my wife likes a 357 Marlin and my daughter shoots a 30/06. One extreme to the other and neither would trade. Let her shoot some of each and see what she likes.

The black phase of the fox squirrel is more common the further south you get. A woods I once hunted in Illinois didn't have any completely black ones but those with 'black trimmings' were not that rare.

I have a Ruger Deerfield that I would like to put an inexpensive red dot on. Ruger has a propitiatory mount on it that will not accept these. Years ago I had a Mini 30 and the mount son it and the Deerfield were interchangeable. In fact the mount on the Deerfield now is the one that...
Sort of a similar question. I have a 44 Deerfield and I have wanted to put a red dot on it. It has Ruger's proprietary mount onit. I have seen a replacement mount for the ranch rifles and these seem to share a mounting system with the Deerfield. Would one of these work on the Deerfield?

I once was dove hunting and shot a dove, went to retrieve it and pitched it in a pile with other 'dead' doves. Dang if when it hit the ground it jumps up and takes off as if nothing had happen. A buddy and I both got two shots at it on the way out but it kept going. At least we got a good...
