Didn't know, was speaking in general terms.... blast away, haha.

.350 Legend - .358 cast bullets yay or nay?

"One"(of a few) area with cast bolt guns that only you can truly answer, and it's a choice.... which is definitely a good/great thing; Answer to yourself what your tolerance level is for jammed seating depths..... one very important reason is case shortening with reduced loads. If it's a...

Does Lyman M Die require lubing?

Stihl weedwacker fully in hand(goin off into the weeds but heck, there's some discussion going on over there) I make spuds for M dies. Pretty dang fun actually because it's a downright challenge hitting the #'s. Gassing up the Stihl.... I swear,a mirror finish on an M spud has noticeably more...

.350 Legend - .358 cast bullets yay or nay?

The very first thing that gets done on any rig that comes through here.... with the idea that cast is on the menu. Check and record actual chamber neck ID. Also, every rig here gets it's own load data booklet. The above neck ID is at the top, right next to model and chambering info. "It...

Why do/did you choose a revolver as your EDC over a semiauto?

My revolvers have a much broader window for ammo.... really no comparison in this category. Can have "bulldozer" .44 loads to go hunting with, and swap out to target loads that my grandchildren can shoot. Revolvers are easier for me on certain visual/tactile safety items. I don't carry anymore...

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

I went back and saw where you think spinning noses causes lead dust.... that's pretty good. It dosen't but can see where you would think so. So I fully apologize for bringing that up. Going to keep following this thread though, just downright interesting. Hopefully I'm going to learn a lot...

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

Don't know where you're getting some of this? A nose sizer works exactly like sizing the body of a cast bullet.... no grinding involved.

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

The top punches I'm referring to are for lube sizers. The factory versions in a lot(most) cases are too short. Some of mine cover the whole nose,on loooong skinny bullets. The epoxy fill works but won't stand up to swaging duties.

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

I grind a lot of reamers, mainly for custom top punches.... occasionally grind one for nose dies. The car reamers I've bought however.... have worked perfectly.

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

And for others reading this and wanting to get in the fast lane.... the "proper",albeit somewhat dated style of these tools are "car reamers". In this instance, the car is a train car. The 1/2" in pic above lists it as a tapered maintenance reamer... which is cool too. Car reamers are an...

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

    Here's a tapered 1/2" reamer but I swear,would seriously consider this same sellers 7/16"?

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

Says there's 5 available. Not tapered, but did spend less than 2 minutes looking. I almost bought it on general purposes, haha. What little springback there is with cast... I'll say this reamer will produce a .449" nose.

Spec says, .4497".... I'll go to the $20 "bet window" and say this reamer will yield a .4498/9" hole.

    Processing range scrap...

Yup,what 41 mag wrote. For me,it's more of an inventory issue than anything? I don't process until it's necessary.... you could call it laziness but,not really. I just don't know ahead of time enough to cast a bunch of ingots of any particular blend. Therefore, leave them as found/bought until...

Price of Colt Detective special 38

X2.... bought an,as new DS around '85 for $350. It was maybe a cpl years old? Instead of working the price, got them to throw in a nice used holster. Realizing they had zero $ in the holster and had margins on the DS.... they took the deal.

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

There's a whole 'nuther way of sizing with a Mack truck's worth of refinement but.... it's beyond any technical writing skill I possess. And I swore would never discuss it again after getting banned from a cast site after a very poor description brought out the wrath of a cpl big shot members...

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

One other "instrumental" (vs intrinsic) lesson on the LG is; It's instrumental because yes,it sizes the nose but it's educational towards the way nose lubes can(means may, might, hopefully) work some magic. Powder coating is all fine and good.... but it sure as heck ain't the only way to...

Disturbing problem: Cartridge with Lyman cast bullet handloaded to COAL spec will NOT chamber in my rifle

We're standing on first base.... some may want to stop reading now. Another way to size noses is with a "Little Goober"... LG for short. I coined that name because, well, seemed appropriate. Technically it's an external spinner. It sizes the nose but WAY more important is it self centers to the...
